Does anyone know if the old conversion kits are still available for the Monogram B-36 and their B-52D? The B-36 could be converted into a XC-99, and the BUFF could be converted to the tandem-seat prototype, with fighter-style canopy. I’m sure the changes would be greater than new fuselages, and research would be tough, but I’d really like to tackle one of those bad boys. Of course, I’d need to invest in a case of Squadron White putty. Also, anyone ever done a FiCon conversion on a B-36? Of course, it has to be done with a model that can hang from somewhere, but for many of us, that’s the only way that model will fit in the apartment. I’ve seen them done very poorly, but not a really detailed conversion with an F-84 hanging down from the intricate trapeze mechanism.
Holy Cow, Tom!! A B-36-to-C-99 conversion kit would only use the wings from the B-36, would it not? I’d like to see it, though. Make a great conversation piece, if nothing else. If I remember correctly, only one C-99 was built, and it’s been recently rediscovered and is on it’s way to Dayton to be restored and put on display at the USAF Museum.
The short answer is no,IMHO. I know a company called OK Models did the X/YB-52 conversion many moons ago (in the early 80’s) but it’s long since OOP. I don’t think I’ve even seen it on Evil-bay. It’s dealt with a bit in the Detail and Scale book on the B-52, in the modeler’s section. Good luck in your quest to get one; there’s got to be a few kicking around somewhere.
Years ago, one of the vacuform manufacturers made a conversion kit for the B-36 to XC-99. Off the top of my head I can’t remember who it was but do remember seeing one on Ebay a while back. Unfortunately that’s probably the only place you’l probably find one now.
sharkskin in your quest for a B-36 to a C-99, Execuform made the conv. kit you can even make the single wheel version too. As for the XB-52, OK Modeles made the conv. kits for several B-52’s. I’ve made both of these models years ago. As for the Ficon B-36 project Scale Models , Sept 1981 issue hase the plans to make the model. All of these kits are 72nd scale. Good luck . outdoorsman
for the BUFF try this website

What about a converion for the B-60?
I don’t think anybody makes a B-36 to B-60 conversion kit, but it can’t be that hard, can it? Just take a B-36 and a B-52 to the chop shop and have at it! The hardest part would be to maintain a matching wing profile. Hm…
I’m getting ideas. [:-,]
It seems to me that Luciens’ magnum opus has caused some people to become masochistic.
The XC-99 is a great plane–the discovered plane going to Dayton is from Kelly Field, TX. I tried to ship the ol’ bird to Dayton years ago, but a rare owl had taken residence in the aircraft. The conversion would be a great project!
