Graphics tool gone!

I got a big surprise yesterday - my graphics program Paint Shop Pro, no longer works. In messing around on Corel’s site, it looks like they no longer offer or support it. It is not a cloud program- it resides on my hard drive. Nothing I could do would revive it, Task Manager shows a “disabled”.

Looked at free graphics programs, only one I found was GIMP. I have an older version of GIMP, but have never used it- too complicated. However seems to be only game in town- can’t afford photoshop or lightroom.

I’ll update to the latest GIMP and bite the bullet, looking at all the support I can find.

What do I use a graphics program for- decal making, cutting patterns, and many other little jobs.

Check out InkScape. It’s very similar to adobe illustrator. Between that and GIMP there shouldn’t be anything you can’t do!

Ah, it’s very frustrating when that happens! We discovered two years after the fact that support ended for the 3D Earthwork / Quantity Survey software we used at work, so it just stopped dead one day. We were without a viable alternative for a few months and had to get by on trials - not all of which were fit for purpose…

GIMP2 has a steep learning curve conceptually, but if your activities are fairly consistent and routine then you’ll master it pretty quickly. I used to use it for cover art for YouTube videos, which were pretty formulaic.

@missileman2000 Do you have an old version of PaintShop Pro? I was just on their webpage and you can still get it. They said this about supported products:

Unfortunately for many years I have been updating, which I believe does not leave the old version intact.

Problem solved. I already had it on my computer- Libre Open Office. I had never used the Draw ap, It turns out it is a full-featured graphics ap with a great manual

I use InkScape, and I also still dabble in Microsoft Paint.

I cannot get inkscape to run on my printer. However, satisfied with openoffice draw.

@missileman2000

If you like using Inkscape, do your work in there then export the file to your computer as a jpg. Then open it with another program that you can print with.

For a good free quick raster graphics tool, I use Paint.Net. Although more and more I am using Affinity Creative Suite (Photo - Adobe Photoshop equivalent, Designer - Adobe Illustrator equivalent and Publisher - Adobe inDesign equivalent). I say equivalent but I more mean analogue they are very different but do vary similar things as the Adobe programs. The beauty of the Affinity programs is they are a one-time buy rather than a monthly subscription like the Adobe software.

That’s really crappy especially when you have a physical copy. Then again it’s like Microsoft stopping support for the Windows I have. Have no idea of what’s going happen come October.
