Got .50 Cal??

Well I don’t think I will complain about PE ever again. In anticipation of the run of allied/Canadian armour I have underway, I bought some of the Mission Models .50 Cal ammo and links. I didn’t realize just how small they would be, but I have to say I developed a good rythmn and they aren’t that hard to assemble. I use a stereo microscope at 32X, non-serrated needle nose pliers, .019 drill bit, .020 drill bit, and sharp and dull hobby knives. For those who have never seen these, I scanned this with a dime for scale reference.

  1. A string of 6 - .50 Cal rounds in links hanging from a .020 drill bit.
  2. Some of the formed links.
  3. Fret of the links.
  4. .50 Cal rounds.
It is very hard to get good focused pictures because these are so small. Here is the set of 6 rounds, linked. Using my digital cam, macro, 3X digital zoom. I then enlarged the image to 150%.

I need to work on my photography techniques to get some better images. I tried to take some of the kits I have on the go and they just didn’t look right. I guess I have been taking pics of my dogs and guitars for too long. I will try to get some progress pics soon.
    Cheers.

wow,[:0] now THAT is small!!!

Nuts, I say, nuts!!!

Looking great! I’ve used this set and love it!

WOW! I thought I worked with PE that was small!

Well it is nice to know that if you can put these together then you could become an optical surgeon. You know something to fall back on.

Grizz

i’ll never complain about dragon tiger pe again!!!

That’s insane. I don’t know how you people don’t go blind.

If I was the one making the links, I would have by now lost all of the pieces in my ever so hungry carpet of mine…[:D]

Did the same as you, bought a bunch of them when mission models had their moving sale. They just keep staring at me on my work bench wondering when I’m going to get enough courage to try assembling them again. I’m still toying with a system to do these little buggers, they are amazingly sharp looking but impossibly difficult to work with. Good luck on your system. Semper Fi, Mike
