Good Paint Schemes for Texans/Harvards

I used to build model airplanes when I was a little kid, but I never bothered to make them look any good. Now that I’m back into the hobby, I’ve been practicing with painting. I’ve found that, if you paint the canopy black so you can’t see the empty interior of the Testors 1/72 SNJ, it looks alright. I’ve been buying some of these, they’re cheap and easy to build, and there are so many paint schemes that look good on a Texan.

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions about paint schemes for my Texans.

It came to me this morning that I aught to paint one like a Zero, and use decals from my spares box. We’ve all seen Texans made up to look like Zeros in the movies, so what the heck.

That’s one idea, yes. Another would be to model a Reno racer… There’s been lots of them in those races, with lots of colorful schemes!

Paint it light gray with some red meatballs. That’s what was used as Zeros in the movie “God is my Co-pilot”

Great idea for the “Jap” AT-Zero… you might even want to try grafting an actual Zero canopy on to simulate one of the “Zeros” on the old “Blacksheep Squadron” TV show.

Another good one is the old Miller beer aerobatic team.

Try a different scheme. A US Navy (SNJ). I can supply details if you wish

See if you can get hold of the revell ‘Reno Racer’ set 1/48 th scale. it contains an excellent T6 & an average P51D. both come with superb paint/decal schemes and for the two, you will only pay a little more than for one kit. I find 1/48th scale easier to build & it has a lot more detail.
Good building!
