Good kit manufacturers?

Hi all!

I need your expertise, as I am a serious newbie! [8-|]

I’m wondering, I have only had experience (and darn little!) with one kit brand and that is Revell. The price of the Revell kits seem reasonable, but I’d like to get some input about some other manufacturers of kits that you all would also recommend.

My requirements are:

  1. I’m looking for 1:48 or 1:32 scale

  2. Average kit must be less then $40

  3. Mostly interested in WWI and WWII

Could anyone give the top three recommendations? I’d really appreciate it.

Tamiya, Hasegawa, Eduard, Dragon, Accurate Miniatures, Italeri and Academy all offer some nice respectable kits in 1/48 that should fit your $40 limit. 1/32 becomes a bit tough. With the scale upgrade the makers that do offer 1/32 of those listed pack a lot of detail, but with a price you will be hard pressed to find under $40. Best I can tell you on that scale is to search and scour the internet for deals.

Ditto what Brian said. I have a good mix of Hasegawa, Tamiya, Revell/Monogram, and Academy. You can pretty much find what you want on Ebay. There a ton of kits. Just set your budget before you get on…cause you can spend a lot before you know it.[whstl] But I wouldn’t know anything about that!

My last bit of advised depends on what era you are building. WWI, WWII, Modern. Good luck on you buys.

Ditto on all the above. Also, continue to monitor the threads on this site as there are often many references to specific subjects and the better kits with the biggest bang for your buck.

For WWI subjects, Eduard and Roden are tough to beat.
