GMC deuce and a half in Vietnam

Hi

Were the GMC 2.5 ton trucks used in Vietnam?

If not, what trucks did the US employ…I want to build a convoy with Sheridans, ACAVs and a truck?

Thanks

The most common deuce and a halfs used there would be the M-35 series of trucks, although the M-34 is also a possibility for the initial phases of US involvement. The older WWII GMC deuces would be more likely for early ARVN and French vehicles from before major US involvement. AFV Club makes on in 1/35. Also the Italeri 5 ton (M-923?), 10 wheel variant, not the “bigfoot”, would be a good convoy vehicle.

The M35A1, as mentioned above, was the most common US truck used in Vietnam. AFV Club makes an excellent M35A2 kit. It is pretty easy to backdate it to an A1 model. Also, by '68-'69, A2 versions were showing up in Vietnam.

The Italeri M925 5-ton is a post-Vietnam vehicle that came into service in the late '70s to early '80s. The 5-ton used in Vietnam was the M54, which is only available in resin from Real Model for a crazy price, or by combining/converting an M35A2 and the M925 kits to backdate it to an M54.

M54 conversion

Here’s how mine turned out.

Good luck.
