Gluing Eduard COLOR-Etch Bezels

I am going to “attempt” to build the Eduard Color-Etch Dashboard for the 1/32 Hasegawa Me109 G6. My question is what is the best technique for gluing the instrument bezels (yes, they are seperate parts) to the color-etch dashboard. My main concern is how to clean up any glue drips or "squeeze-outs. Here are the three main options that I know of, but would certainly like to hear of any others:

  1. Super thin CA applied with needle eyes, use de-bonder on q-tip to clean up (would this mess up the color-etch surface)?

  2. Thinned Elmers or 556 Canopy. Clean up with water on q-tip?

  3. Use Future as the adhesive. Use Windex or Ammonia on a Q-tip for clean up? I assume the Windex or Ammonia would not harm the color-etch surface?

I see the pics on the Eduard site of there PE built on models, and figure there is some way they are able to clean up any excess adhesive. I simply don’t believe someone is that good never to have any excess adhesive around the PE parts.

Would appreciate your opinions and ideas.

You can check my 1/24 D-9 wip on here, page one . I do the whole ip . The way I did it was to assemble as much of the separate gauges as possible ,on the fret , then attach each one to the ip , glossing with KKlear, finally for the lens.

I used tiny drops of ca ,applied with a small stiff wire. I also drilled holes in the ip ,centering each guage.

krow113,

Sorry, I’m new here. What do you mean by “ip”? Also, how go I get to your build? Is there a seperate section for works in progress, or is it here in the “Airplane” forum?

Thanks for the response.

Stephen

Nevermind on the “ip” part, its instrument panel, correct?

Stephen

krow113, I found your D-9 article. So you used future as your adhesive for the bezels? What did you use for cleanup if you got too much? Would Windex work?

Stephen

I used ca (superglue) to adhere and Micro Kristal Klear for a lens.

Any other ideas or opiniond?

Stephen

meant to type “any other ideas or opinions?”.

I think Krow113 has it nailed. I like the gel super glue. I like to apply the glue with the tip of a sharp toothpick. Center a little tiny dot of glue. Then use a blunted toothpick with a slight tackiness that will just be able to pick up the gauge. You can then place the gauge right where you want it. The trick then is to pull up the toothpick releasing the gauge where you placed it. Future would probably be just fine for the lens. Rick
