Lately i’ve been usin’ Araldite Epoxy Super Glue for PE, it’s superb for allowin’ the PE to be manipulated into place (most important), 'cos in five minutes it’s set! There is a slight problem with this stuff though, by the time you’ve moved onto the next couple of pieces, another batch of the stuff needs to be mixed up, this is not very economical, and is a bit of a chore!
So I was wonderin’ if any of you guys know of a superglue that is slow actin’, givin’ you enough time to arrange pieces of PE into place? Cheers! [;)]
You need slow-acting (high viscocity) superglue. Apply it with a toothpick, and you have at least a minute, under normal circumstances, to position your part. You can then fix it in position with superglue accelerator. Hypodermic syringes are useful for precise application of accelerator.
There are many brands, and any decent LMS should stock both the glue and the accelerator. Failing that, try Slo-Zap
You could try Loctite Super Glue “Gel”. I have also found with normal Super Glue there is time to move things around as long as you don’t compress the parts. Super Glue works by expelling air from the mating parts, so if you don’t press too hard you wont expel the air.
Actually, doesn’t super glue react to moisture…rather than a lack of air. I thought it was the moisture in the air and on other objects that activates the chemical reaction, hence why our moist fingers are always easier to bond than plastic and PE…
