Glue for photo-etch?

Lately i’ve been usin’ Araldite Epoxy Super Glue for PE, it’s superb for allowin’ the PE to be manipulated into place (most important), 'cos in five minutes it’s set! There is a slight problem with this stuff though, by the time you’ve moved onto the next couple of pieces, another batch of the stuff needs to be mixed up, this is not very economical, and is a bit of a chore!

So I was wonderin’ if any of you guys know of a superglue that is slow actin’, givin’ you enough time to arrange pieces of PE into place? Cheers! [;)]

I have used a this technique with a lot of success

You need slow-acting (high viscocity) superglue. Apply it with a toothpick, and you have at least a minute, under normal circumstances, to position your part. You can then fix it in position with superglue accelerator. Hypodermic syringes are useful for precise application of accelerator.

There are many brands, and any decent LMS should stock both the glue and the accelerator. Failing that, try Slo-Zap

and Zip Kicker

both available from Hannants.

Chris.

I use Grip medium which I got from my LMS and its very slow acting, gives you upto a couple of minuits before it set’s.

Thanks a lot, guys! Appreciate it! [:)]

You could try Loctite Super Glue “Gel”. I have also found with normal Super Glue there is time to move things around as long as you don’t compress the parts. Super Glue works by expelling air from the mating parts, so if you don’t press too hard you wont expel the air.

Hope this helps…Kenny

For Pe to PE, nothing, and I mean nothing beats resistance soldering. (see my sig tag for the RSO w/ PAK 40, all in brass and all soldered.)

Small Shop has a new tool for glueing PE to plastic, may look at their website. Seems pretty cool as well. http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1751

I use the Ausfwerks method myself, but then again, that’s 1/2 my deal anyway[:)]

But for PE to plastic, it’s pretty rubbish!

Toothpicks work pretty well, and don’t cost £65 a go!

Cheers,

Actually, doesn’t super glue react to moisture…rather than a lack of air. I thought it was the moisture in the air and on other objects that activates the chemical reaction, hence why our moist fingers are always easier to bond than plastic and PE…

To each their own brother. Just trying to show what else is out there. I use a lot of CA and Epoxy and acrylic binder to bond PE to plastic.

Like here:

My Sturer Emil rear end, used everything on this one except the new SS tool.

No the best paint job, but the construction is what I am showing.
