glencoe models

i was checking out internet hobbies website and saw a company called Glencoe models. They were all 1/48 scale and priced in the $12.00 range. As always, i turn to our experts here before buying. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. P.S. Thank you to all the people that share your knowledge about modeling on this site. For those of us that are getting back, this forum has made modeling fun again.

Glencoe Models have been around for decades. They are typical 50-60’s era quality. Models meant for real modelers, not those who are assemblers who prefer kits that are done with a shake of the box. Along with Revell Monogram, Testors and Airfix, I cut my modeling teeth on these kits. [Y]

I’ve built one kit, the J2F Duck. Really basic but not bad. I did work on the interior a little even though the canopy is very thick. With some scratch building or detailing I think they can make into some nice kits. Here’s the one I did. Chris

Glencoe is in the business of buying the molds of other company’s obsolete kits, and of resurrecting the molds of defunct kit manufacturers. As such, thier product line ranges from ancient to positively hoary. To their credit, many old favorites are in current production, rather than having had their tooling sold for scrap.

thanks everyone. Chris, this is the exact one i wanted to buy !! Hope mine turns out just close to yours, what a beauty-- Doc bailey

my own personal update. Phil, from what i just found, you are close to being right. Had to go to their ebay site to buy. They didn’t have it so i found another glencoe seller that had it. It seems there are 2 different kits from two different companies to build one airplane and could not guarantee both models were complete. Bidding was at $9.99 plus $10.00 shipping. Oh yes, decals from earlier version of this plane. Learning to investigate thanks to you guys. doc

Sent you a PM with an email of a guy who has one for sale cheap.
