Gerrysmodels 1/35 scale Tanks/vehicles LOTS OF PICTURES

Hi,

Just wanted to share some pictures of various tanks and vehicles i have done. I would love to know what you think of them.

From the ones i can see its looking very nice. I do like the Sturmtiger, i am a big German armour fan myself. Theres some nice looking work on the figures.

There are a couple of things regards historical accuracy, but not everyone is to worried about that.

If i can just make a couple of suggestions. Makeingnposts so photo heavy can cause a lot of problems with loading. A bit of background into the builds would be very nice, scale, kit make, any AM. If i might suggest threads with 2 oir 3 builds in each one. Its just a bit labour intesive at the moment lol.

Yeah sorry about that i am no use with computers and i got my son to throw them on quickly for me but i will learn. It was just a start to show some of them. I have hundreds of diaramas and men to take photos of. Could you point out some of the historical things you dont find accurate? I put alot of effort into making them as accurate as possible. Thanks for looking.

any chance of a few closeups of the figures, they look real good( maybe in a new post tho)

Yea i will make a new thread later today with figures but less pictures haha.

I know what you mean about computers, they are a great tool but can be a real pain at times. The problem with so many pics can be the load time, and some of them are not opening.

Two things i can see are only minor and are both related to decals. The Sturmtiger has the insignia for the 12th SS Pz Div. But to the best of my knowledge, and i know someone will correct me if i am wrong, these vehciles were not assigned to any Div’s. The other is the Wirbelwind. You have put the SS insignia on the helmits, but by this stage of the war these were not painted on. You might get the odd old and bold who still has his original helmit, but most of them would be bear. But they are only minor points.

I do like the camo net on the Wirbel and the painting of those Soviet figures with all those medals is brilliant.

This is better than anything I could build. I like it. By the way, what do you use to simulate grass like that?

Hi guys I have posted a new thread cs.finescale.com/…/148365.aspx

Thanks for looking. I will put on more photos including figures. I am taking on board all your comments. I am pretty new to this and am not a child of the computer age .

Thanks for the comments. I used a bit of artistic licence with the 12th SS Panzer Division decal on the Sturmtiger and the crew of the Wirblewind are proud SS men who have kept the insignia on their helmets.

Hi I just used static grass. This was spread on my turntable just for effect to make the photo look better.

Wow!

Although almost a bit overwhelming you are to be congratulated to an excellent selection.

I think you are displaying a lot of well adopted techniques and I especially like the way you are using the figurines in your dioramas.

Thank you for sharing - keep them coming

Svenne

Thanks for the positive comments. I will be posting new photos with several dioramas and vignettes. look forward to your thoughts.

Gerry

Maybe your light or camera, some of your nets look almost neon green. Normally, those things get drug through the dirt, dusty. The only time they look new is when the bag they come in is opened for the first time. The other thing is your cables, they have a lot of weight to them. Maybe trying to simulate some gravity or weight on the cables, they don’t flex like rope, but they do sag. Otherwise, much better and more volume than I can do!

Gerry: as Bish said the numbers of photos in the post almost gave my poor slow ISP here a work a heart attack! [:P]

Nice work, good advice from the guys here.

By biggest complaint is - where’s the Sherman!?! [;)]

Gerry: this is an old thread. I hope you still monitor it. Thanks for posting your pics. Here are a few historical quibbles that I saw:

  1. Almost NEVER paint the insides of hatches white. Makes the tank visible to enemy observation. Only seen on a handful of pre-war German vehicles. Common mistake by modelers.

  2. the camo net and fuel cans atop the Tiger 1. Very dangerous (fuel) and would obstruct the view of the commander – again, very dangerous. He acquires targets and calls out where the enemy is – he’d never allow anything that would foul his vision. Also, that stuff would fall behind the mantle and jam the elevation of the gun. Finally, the Tiger 1 commander’s hatch is rotated to 6 o’clock. It was not rotatable: it should be at 2 o’clock.

  3. Brumbar chain: again, very dangerous – easily could fall and entangle the suspension. Plus, chains have no worth to an AFV besides perhaps hauling out an engine or transmission. Tanks used cables. Chains are only seen on prewar French armor and mistakenly commonly used by modelers.

As a rule of thumb with additional stowage on your vehicles: always ask yourself: “do they hinder fighting (turret traverse, elevation), do they hinder sight lines (commander, driver, etc.), are they an undue hazard (fuel cans atop the turret, chains not bagged and stowed away), would they fall off at the first bump or hill undulation, do they prevent a quick escape if a tank is hit?”

Hope these help
