German uniforms in N.Africa...advise needed

Gentlemen,

I have purchased this model, you can see it here:

http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=TM35009

The instructions are quite poor and doesn’t say in which colour to paint the uniforms, boots and helmets. The figures also have waterbottles, someting that looks like a folded tarp on their backs and a gas mask box. Could somebody please let me know which colours to use, preferably by Tamiya. Also, what colour to use to paint the exposed skin, something that will indicate that these soldiers have been in the sun for a long time.

Thanks…

I am no expert, but this might be useful to you:

Here’s an excellent site for DAK uniforms…

For the base color of exposed skin on troops, I use Testor’s Model Master Radome Tan.

What Hans said. For a base tone for deeply-tanned Europena flesh, Citadel Tanned Flesh is also a good starting point, especially if you’re going to use oil paints on top.

Also, bear in mind that for Afrika Korps uniforms, you can get away with quite a lot of variation around a Khaki/ tan/ khaki drill theme. Sun, wind, and frequent washing makes for fade and variation.

Cheers,

Chris.
