Steve you’ve nailed it! Just excellent work.[tup]
Very kind words doog…thanks.
Bodge: Yes, that’s the exhaust, I’ll hit her with black as you mentioned, thanks!
Zokissma: I was really impressed by how well the thin oil mixes were able to be manipulated to build up the effect AND how easy it was! I’ll definately be using that technique again for sure.
Pvt Mutt/wbill76/treadwell/rjkplasticmod/schnobs/hughes2682/mg.mikaelmm23t: Thanks a bunch guys!..I was especailly glad to see how many of you noticed the weary/tired look of this one. That was the look I wanted.
Looking good so far. I didn’t see Rick’s article, but he lives in my area, and is in the same club. I’ve seen his work up close, and it has to be seen to be believed. Somewhere I even have photo’s of an in progress build he did and was bringing with him to the meetings. UNBELIEVABLE work. The modulation technique I have experimented with and it’s fairly easy to get a decent result. I think you’ll do good with it. He taught me how to add the scratches and chips I’ve been trying to figure out.
Very nice, I love it! good controlled weathering!
Thanks, Jim
Now that looks like a truck!
Very nice Steve.
I love your truck and want to marry it…
Haven’t heard that for a while. I quess once again the best I can ot is cheat on the side with it.[;)]
That looks sharp Steve, the painting and weathering is fantastic. This makes me want to paint a PG tank. I’m looking forward to seeing this one at the next show.
Rob
Steve - looks great! [:D]
Making me think perhaps I should backout on the tanks and get a truck. GRIN
Great looking truck! I recall one quote in FSM regarding black as being to strong for upper surfaces unless depicting oil stains. The hood is hinged in two places to fold up and to the center for maintanence, the hinge seams would be a light rust and not blackened. Sides usually fade more on the upper surface with light streaking from rain over the years. A clean spot on the windshield from a wiper blade looks the part. Don’t get me wrong, I think the truck is very well done! As the rear fender and tyre look perfect. Now a motor in the back for that broken down Panzer IV!
Guys: A little late, but here’s my response to your comments:
modelmaniac96: Controlled weathering was part of my goal…thanks for noticing…
agentg/ scratchmod/ dupes: Thanks for the nice words guys.
Manny: You proposed to the truck before wing_nut, so I, as her father, give her to you in matrimony.
wing_nut: Sorry Marc, Manny beat your proposal, you’ll just have to “cheat on the side” with my truck when Manny’s out-of-town at modeling events
fantacmet: This is a nice truck to build, up to Tamiya’s usual standard. I got mine for $20 + shipping…if you can do the same, go for it!
Suppression Fire: I don’t agree with all your comments, but you also made some goodsuggestions, thanks. More importantly, I appreciate the time and thought you put into your comments, thanks again.
A little late? You need to get on the forum some more my friend! [t$t]
D’oh, I don’t know how I missed this one! I think it came out PERFECT. I have never been much for historical accuracy, always been more into the “art” of it, and I think it looks real good from that persepctive (though I can understand what Bill and Manny mean when they comment on the bleached look).
I started out with a tube of Windsor and Newton Paynes Grey for doing pin washes. I came to love the stuff so much I went out and bought all the primary colors as well as Burnt Umber and Burnt Sienna. I use them to mix up any imaginable color I want now! I use them for everything from pin washes to filters, and I have really really taken a liking to them for figure painting. The stuff truly is awesome!
Brian
I’m not calling this one good but I will call it great!
You really have developed a signiture with your weathering Steve.
One thing, the windows look a little frosted. Did you spray them with clear matte or were they like that?
dupes: I have been away WAY too much, but I’m trying to get back here regularly like I used to.
New Hampshire: We seem to be in the same school with oils…I have become a REAL fan of their flexibility and diversity of aplllications. Thanks for your comments.
panzerguy: Thanks man, especially appreciated from someone as talented as you. I like that signature comment…The windows were clear. I put a wash on them to cut the shine down…but they lack the wiper streak(s). I’ll take care of it and a few other things and make sure she’s ready for AMPS East (hard to believe I’m thinking about finished fall builds already)
