German Splinter Camo on Jets

Anybody have some good advise on how I can achieve the Splinter (NORM 72) Camo that Germany uses used on their jets? I have a Phantom that I want to paint as a German RF-4E varient but I’m not sure how to go about it. Do I mask and then re-mask the plane?

Model kit is a 1/48 Testors RF-4C.

Here’s a link to Airdocs showing the RF-4E. The way I’ve done splinter camo in the past is to paint the gray, then mask for the green. HTH

Light to dark makes sense. What do you use to mask?

I like to use Tamiya masking tape or Post It Notes.

68GT Green painter’s masking tape! Fast on, fast off as the longer the tape is on the harder it is to remove. Never use the outside edge of the tape, sharp lines need to be cut to avoid contamination from the roll of tape kicking around your work area. Make sure the base coat is fully cured before applying mask. Yes light to dark is the prefered sequence.

Bringing this back up because while I was sanding I started to wonder if these jets had a sharp or a soft edge on the pattern?
