I picked up a Tamiya kit of a Sd.kfz.250/3 and I want to model it as one of Rommel’s vehicles. problem is the painting instructions say that the exterior should be “dark yellow”, but the interior should still be “panzer gray.”
Also, what is the correct color for the Maybach engine, gearbox, etc. I plan to build the hood panels open to show off the engine compartment.
I have several color photos of the interior of a restored 250/1(alt). Even though the exterior is olive on dark yellow, the entire interior is painted dark grey, as if this were originally a dark grey exterior, later repainted dark yellow.
Here is the engine;
Yes Gimp you are right… the oldest vehicles came out of the production line in overall Panzer Gray, Included the interior, as the Sd. Kfz. 250 is a top-opened vehicle… later new camo schemes were applied, but the interor still remained in Panzer Gray… hope this helps…
From my understanding, the halftracks came from the factory with the interior painted in the same color as the exterior - when the change over from Panzer Grey to yellow came about, the halftracks coming from the factory had the yellow interior while the halftracks in the field had their exteriors painted yellow, the interiors remained Panzer Grey. I have an old bound Armor Profile in which there is a picture of Guderian in a Sdkfz 251 command track and it is pointed out that although the exterior is yellow, the interior is still Panzer Gray.
