I have Tamiya’s German tank reloading set and it comes with some ammo crates. Well my question is, did the germans paint these? or were they left in a natural finish? They will be portrayed in June 1944. thanks.
John, usually natural wood or painted Panzer Grey, depending on what ammo you are talking about. See this site for some great pics of ammo boxes. It is in French, but easy to navigate. Go to “Antichar” for anti-tank guns and “Blindes” for tank rounds

Most of the ammo boxes I have owned and seen were left natural wood if it was a wooden box, metal ammo cans were always painted and not to leave anything out, individual round containers were normally made of a straw material and left completely natural.
The wood and straw weathered according to how long it was exposed to the elements.
I hope this helps a bit.
thanks for the infor guys!
