Do any of you guys ever get builders block where you can not decide what to build? Do any of you ever have more than one build going at once? When you get builders block what do you do? Do you try to build more than just armor?
Any way there are my questions, just wanted to know if anyone experiences these tthings. I have a whole closet full of kits and cant decide what to build next.
I used to get it all the time. Try watching a good war movie or Band of Brothers, they might have something that you will decide you want to do. Just start looking around for neat pics with interesting vehicles or scenes. You’ll find something eventually. I tried to build non armor a couple of times, It will give you a nice break and make you crying for more armor[:D]
I have ALOT more than one project right now! I think many of us do. Just dont worry about it, maybe you just need a break for awhile. I’ve had the same thing and a few weeks later I was building like crazy.
I only build one at a time. I between I just look though my closet queens to see what jumps out at me. Or , I’m waiting untill I have the right paint, parts, ref, etc. That’s half the fun for me.
Oh yeah! I’ve a number of kits which are partially started, then for whatever reason I stopped. Last summer I took a 6 month break from modeling. I came back to modeling when I was 30, now I’m 51. Last summer was the first time I’ve taken any time off from modeling in all those years. I think it was a good break. I’m merrily building right now, assembling Karaya metal tracks for my Dragon Initial Tiger kit I’m in the middle of.

modelbuilder, I know exactly what you mean. Often times I’ve looked at my unbuilt kits and can’t make a decision on what to start next.
I guess that is one good thing about joining the group builds here. If I have a model lying around that I can use for a group build, I’ll join in and work on that model. it keeps me focused and helps me prioritize what to build next. Another thing the GBs have done for me is to become more focused on one or two models at a time, not the five or six that I used to try to do all at once like some sort of factory.
Yes we all have I’m sure. I have multi kits going and am sputtering out due to summer blues. One kit I got so flustered with the tracks, I shelved it. It was almost done. I moved onto another kit that is about completed.
I like building several armor kits at once, sometimes i’ll biuld an armor kit and a ship [:O] at the same time(at least they both have hulls and turrets) just for variety. I try to finish building all the kits i start but not all of them get painted right away, then when i get burned out building i’ll paint several armor kits at the same time that have the same overall color. It kinda gets like an assembly line.
We all get the modelling pause one time or another. Generally speaking, I have my next few projects dictated by Group Builds. It’s a good way to not think too hard about what I want to build, and at the same time, I get to have more motivation to complete it, as I get to share it afterwards. On that same note, I am quite anal about not starting another kit until my current project is completed. The only multiple builds I’ve done were builds not of the same type, that is, I’ll be working on one armor model, while working on a figure or something of the sort.
Thanks guys, I dont feel like the only one now. I might give one of these GBs a try.
Well, right now I’m trying to fisnish my unfinished kits and keep with the GB. I just finished a tamiya tiger I that I had half-built two years ago [:P]
I also did an excel document (I should have done an access DB) with my finished, unfinished, and half-built kits. It’s really useful and gives you extra satisfaction to type 100% finished in front of another name. I like variety, so I look for models that can be built in rare markings (have you tought of a Cuban T-55?) or for companies I haven’t tried but have in the stash.
So now I’m doing a Sci-fi AFV for the Warhammer 40K GB. Then I’ll do a finemolds Me-410 or a Hasegawa Shiden-kai. I haven’t tried finemolds and haven’t built any japanese aircraft. Then I’ll start an BTR-70 for the amphibious GB.
Try to have a list of what you have, what you want and what you need for certain model.
Well it doesn’t happen to me yet because I’m pretty new to modelling and I have a nice long list full of goodies to work through.
