Gearing up for a new DVD project

I’m gearing up to produce a new model skills DVD and wonder just what kind of things you guys would like to see. Any suggestions?

Have you done seam filling, smoothing and rescribing, yet? As on fuselages and wing edges?

I’ll second the rescribing. I am terrible at that. Need lots of help.

Thirds. Tried it once but gave up before i did more harm than good. Thats one thing i would like to get the hang of.

I did seams in volume 1 and again in 3. I also did a segment on scribing in volume 3. I think that LED lighting is definitely going to be in the next one and possibly snow/ice dioramas.

I have to check out the Vol 3. The snow/ice dio’s will be very handy.

Snow would be neat.

How about water?

I did a really in-depth (pun?) segment on water in volume #4 with a Nakajima Rufe tied to a beach diorama. I will be touching on water again when I do the snow and ice segment.

How about rigging. Of course, that means you’d have to build a bipe. [;)]

A slight tangent here Matt but I will seque into it. I wanted to mention that your model shipping method in your website’s “tools and tips” section was invaluable when I recently shipped a commission built P-47N from Parma Ohio to Fontana California. I follow it precisely and other than one of the drop tanks being jarred loose, it arrived unscathed. This surprised me since the idiot postal employee was jugling the box like a basketball (I want to reach over the counter and strangle him). Anyways…easy fix for the customer considering. Perhaps a demonstration on how you (or we) did this on your new video?

Keep up the good work,

Joe

Hmm, rigging may be worth looking into. Lots of options there.

Joe, glad that worked for you. I’ve done it many times and it usually works for me but every now and then I get a shipping person with anger issues. Had one manage to take all the gear legs off an F-105 they beat it so bad.

Aircraft Lighting For Dummies would be a nice thing to have on hand.

I’m thinking that I’ll do a tricked out 1/48 Yak-23 with nav and landing light functional on a snow and ice diorama as the main part of the DVD. This will cover the lighting and the snow aspects plus give more on NMF finishes. During construction some other basics covered before can be reviewed like seams and masking. From there I think maybe a segment on a light box and some model photography. If time allows I could do some rigging as an add-on. I want to keep the total production length to about 4 or 5 hours so it can be held on a two disc set.
