Just wanted to let anyone who’s interested know what’s cookin’ in the Wolf’s head for next year…
With the way the Mustang Ranch took off I’m planning on acting as MC for some more group builds here on FSM in the future.
Some of the ideas I’m tossin’ around:
Curtiss P-40 - HEY! I am, afterall, Mr. P-40. So this one’s a natural… Battle of Britain - That little 'ole air battle which ocurred over a place called East Anglia Southeast England… (I really meant to say that to begin with, ya’ll know that… right? [:p] ) OSTFRONT - This could be an all-subject GB encompassing the whole of the Eastern Front during WWII… Operation Bodenplatte - HAPPY NEW YEAR to the USAAF & RAF…
There’s others kickin’ around, but these are the ones which appeal to me most, personally. I have a general idea of how I may conduct these GB’s; start and end dates and such, but I’d like some feedback as to which of these ya’ll would like to see or may want to participate in.
I was thinking a BoB Gb would be a lot of fun, but am to lazy to get it started. The P-40 also zounds good. I’ve only been in a couple of GB’s so far, but think I prefer those with a more focused theme such as The Mustang Ranch & the two mentioned. Something like OSTFRONT is so broad that it would be more like individual builds posting in a common thread. But if you get the BoB &/or P-40 GB’s going next year, I would definitely be interested.
I am feeling particularly pedantic this morning - the BoB took place largely over Kent and Sussex + London - i.e. southern England. East Anglia is more famous for the abundance of American Bases (mighty eighth etc). - and somewhere I frequently visit for the nostalgia (thankfully there are still a number of signs of that great effort) apart from the rather nice countryside. By the way ,by our standards East Anglia is not so little - covers several acres in fact!
What about an x- plane build or a vaccume kit build. i see a lot of you guys have vac kits but have no reason to build them… it would give you a chance and i would like to learn how to also.[:p][:D][:)][8D][^][?][:o)][:0][}:)][8]
It’s still a bit early to commit myself to anything, but I’d take the BoB GB as an excuse to build my 1/48 Boulton-Paul Defiant. I could also do a Me-262 for a Bodenplatte GB, but I think I’d rather do a Vietnam era jet. I do have a few lying around…
Say, what’s THAT at the bottom of your post Steve-O: a last name???[:O][:D] Next thing I know you’ll be telling us where you live. Nah, knowing you this is probably part of some scheme to mess with our heads again… Reno’s probably an acronym[:-,]… Now what does it stand for…?..hmm…[banghead]
That’s actually a very good idea too! I have a Dynavector Scimitar in the box somewhere which would fit right into that category. But we ARE talking next year right?[:D] I have to finish what I got going on right now first (and then build a tank[:0]).
Yeah, I know… my bad… I get all this stuff mixed up in my head sometimes… (kinda like Supertramp and RUSH…)
But by our standards, all of England is freakin’ tiny… [;)]
Besides, the term ‘little’ was not meant to be taken literally. Sheesh, you pedantic types… [:p]
Krax, now THERE’s an idea. A Defiant… and with the new Classic Airframes kit… oooh, I’m gettin’ antsy…
Oh, and the Steve O. Reno… that’s just another way of saying ‘Steve-arino’, a common US-English slang nickname given to those called Steve. So I’m not messing with your heads this time.
Or am I??? Mua-hahahAHAHAHA…
I think I may do all four of those themes, and maybe the MiG Alley deal too…
Actually, I was toying with the idea of the start dates coinciding with the real deal:
The Battle of Britain GB would begin July 10th and last until October 31st…
The Bodenplatte GB would begin on January 1st and last half a day…
The OSTFRONT GB would begin on June 22nd and last almost four years…
[:p][;)][:p][;)][:p]
Seriously, I really would like the start dates to somehow coincide with the actual events. I’ll work it out by then…
Anyhoo, as I said above, I’ve pretty much decided that I’m going to do all four of these.
Why not do a coop build with the tank guys for a theatre, they build the tank and we build the planes… have kinda buddy system going each plane builder teams up with a plane builder.
I would like to do a vacuum form build in the New Year, Swanny’s builds has inspired me to give it a try. I think it would be a good one if we all built the same kit.
On the same lines I could also get into a “resin” build, I really want to expand my modeling skills in the next year.
