I believe they did turn this into a fire fighting vehicle. The hooked up some high pressure water hoses to it and used it to put out some of the oil well fires in Kuwait.
My friend, Paul, over on Genessis, is scratch building one of these Progvev-T’s He’s got some CAD drawings of what he wants to do and it’s looking amazing so far. He’s got it entered into the Armor GB I’m also in over there. I don’t think I’m going to win lol.
Mike: Wow now that would be an awesome model. I’ll have to check Genessis this weekend.
Ridleusmc: Sounds like a good idea, guess it used too much jet fuel to make that economical.
I’d never heard of the thing. When I was looking around for 100 years of the tank videos I found a few clips on the wierdest tanks. And one had this on there, which I was wondering is this real or what till I looked it up.
This tank was called the HSRT (High Speed Retreat Tank) since it had a very high top speed… in reverse, especially with afterburner on. Turning and banking was aided by turret rotation. Crews complained of high, whiny noise levels in the turret, and the driver had to make sure to “keep his head down”.
I’m wondering if a certain Field Marshal built the prototype back in Germany with the engine from a Me-262 and the hull of a Panzer III to roast his marshmellows…
