FW190 cockpits?

Hello all,

Probably a question which has come up a million times but…is there any big differences between the cockpit of a FW190 A-3 and a FW190 A-5/6? I got a bagged Promodeller kit for next to nothing recently. However, much of the cockpit detail is missing so I was looking at some after-market stuff. My LHS has an A-3 detail set and was planning on picking it up…if I get the right answer! Haha!!

Thanks

Mike

The right answer is that if you build models for fun it doesn’t matter at all. Put it in and go far it. Even if you build models to be accurate, I suspect that the minor differences would remain relatively unnoticed by the uninitiated even in the case of judges at the contest. Your biggest concern will be that the PE set will not have been designed for the specific kit and hence you’ll have to do some fiddling to get everything to go into the fuselage correctly. Just my 2 cents worth mind you. I built the FW190 that appeared on the cover of the Feb 2008 and a second FW 190 that appeared as an inset on the cover of the Mar 2008 issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling. The one on the Mar2009 was the Eduard kit but I used many parts from a Tamiya PE set in it.

They’re virtually identical.

Thank you both for your answers!

Mike

For a modeler the differences are not visible. To enlighten you and the rest here some images of a Fw190 A-2 cockpit - which is nearly identical to a A-3 and a Fw 190 A-8 ( to show the development).

I have to ask, where what book did you get those pics from.

Checking other references ( in this case Monogram German Aircraft Interiors 1935-1945) here some cockpitshots from a Fw 190 A-3 and for comparison from a Fw190 A-6. Now its upto you to decide if you want to invest a A-3 detail set in your Butcher Bird.

and now the Fw190 A-6 Cockpit

Thank you so much tango35!

Hello Bish,

the drawings and images comes from a german book ( Dieter Herrmann,Ulrich Leverenz,Eberhard Weber - Focke-Wulf 190 A, Die ersten Baureihen, Aiatic-Verlag). Its a book that has its focus especially on the first versions.

Hello Mike,

no problem. If you or other modelers have questions about my fav bird, feel free to ask - and Help comes by Request. Here in Hannover we have a fine museum with a excellent restorated Fw 190 ( btw the markings were used for the Eduard Weekend Kit of the fw 190 A-8)
