Fw 190 Butcher Bird 2013 (extended to June 2014) Group Build

Hey everybody, here’s my first entry into the GB. This is Tamiya’s FW-190 A8 kit.

Tankster: What a build! That thing looks absolutely gorgeous!! You see this is exactly why we all want you in here struttin’ yer stuff with a build with us. Cant wait to see you put one together with us! Again that plane is friggin nice!

Everybody: Well I’m finished with the cockpit and movin on to the tailwheel bay that I opened up. Heres the progress on the pit:

Tankster… Very nicely done! Nice finish and detail.

Joe, as always, great detail and assy. Your D-9 is going to be a beauty at this rate!

Awesome work on that White 12, Doug. You’ve captured the look of that D superbly. Thats some nice work on the opened panels.

I gotta look at another 190 for this GB. Imagine, I used to hate the 190 and after building with you guys now I have some strange attraction to the Butcher Bird.

Tankster - Fabulous 190! Just excellent. Now, come join us with another and show your WIP.

Joe - Looks like your off and running with another outstanding 190. Splendid job on the cockpit.

Tankster, that most certainly is a great-looking 190. Love your finish work.

Joe, cockpit looks great! Which seatbelt did you use?

Thanks for the comments everybody. Greg, the seatbelts are from Eduard.

Are those the PE seatbelts or the new fabric ones from Eduard?

They are PE. I didn’t know they offered fabric belts. Hmm

They’re still fairly new, this is the image from their website. I know Eagle Editions offers die cut paper seat belts that you thread through the buckles.

I just got a set of those on ebay for my Tamiya 1/48 F-8. They look really nice.

Friggin sweet! I’m going to have to get a set of these for my next build. Thanks Tankster!

YW, they have a Facebook page that you can follow. Thats where I first saw them.

Nice work on that pit Joe, looking forward to seeing more of your Dora!!

I had seen those belts and thought about getting a set for my 32nd 109 that is in progress.

Well, the Dora is done! A few more steps on the A8 and it will be done as well. Will be uploading the Dora pics shortly!

And here are the pics as promised. Just snapped these on the workbench. Will get some better final pics of both birds when the A8 rolls off the bench.

And a few with the flash on to show the dirt and grime on the gear and in the wells.

And a couple of shots at home next to Dortenmann’s D-9,

This particular boxing of the weekend edition D-9 was a challenge. There were definitely some QC issues with the moldings which Eduard rectified immediately. Lots of flash on the grey styrene and some warping, and filled in solid locating points. In the end I think it is a passable build although far from perfect.

You know having the forum here at work is mostly a blessing but every once in a while I’d like to look at a friggin picture without this Barracuda filter screwin it up! I’ll definitely make it a point to look at your completed build tonight when I get home Eric, Joe

I hear ya Joe, that would be frustrating as heck!!

Eric… Killer build as always, Thats a real beauty! I guess I’ve got lucky so far but I found no flash or warped parts at all with my D-9 Profipack kit. The only issue I had was trying to fit the pit and the gun deck so as to have them aligned properly. other then that it went well. But again my brother, Beautiful work!
