FW 190 A3-A5

I’m doing my research the best I can, but am still at a loss. What are the differences between the 190 A3 & A5?

From what I can tell, the A5 is about 6 inches longer due to some added engine mounts(?) and one of the machine gun covers is hinged. Is there anything else aesthetically that would matter? I guess I’m not worried about those 6".

The reason I’m asking is I found a Hasegawa 190A3 for 10 bucks at a LHS on clearance, but want to do an A5 scheme. I know I could just do it anyway, but I like keeping it pretty accurate.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey MrD

Here are some scans that hopefully will help. Most noteablel are the different cowl for the fusealge guns, a few different hatch placements and the attachment of the antenna on the tail. Thats withou getting nto the real technical 3 to 4 to 5 changes. I shoudl give you an idea for a visual.

Thanks for the reply, Wingnut. Those images helped out a lot!

Well, yeah, that’s a little too much difference for my taste, I think. Might need to buy the new Eduard A5 kit.

A little more expensive, though.

Okay guys,

Not to get TOO technical, but there is a website in Japan that offers paper models and the guy has specs on EVERY variant. It’s in Japanese (obviously) but babelfish is a great thing:

Look closely at pictures of the antenna attachment of the A3. That was changed in the A4. I am not sure, but the length of the aircraft may have changed as well from A3 to A4 due to the increased size of the engine.

Here’s another site that I found…
