Fw-189 Uhu, in 1/72

Old Airfix, 1/72; Built OOB, there was quite a bit of sanding involved to get everything lined up. Its a shame about all those raised rivets!

I used this kit more as a canvas to practice some airbrushing. The main camo was airbrushed and then I applied the squiggles with a fine tip paintbrush. Decals came from the spares bin, as the originals were old and crusty…

Cool retro box, though!

The -189s had some fun schemes to choose from. I based this scheme off a pic I found:

The panel line wash on the underside has shown a couple of areas where I lost some panel line detail. Most of what was on the original plastic was raised rivets, and those got blasted away during all the filling and sanding work I did. That meant I had to guess where all the lines were supposed to be.

so…many…rivets…

Anywho, on to the completed pics!

coments and critique welcome!

That is a very cool scheme. I shudder that think of the time spent ABing it. It looks great even if it’s an older kit. Great work.

The airbrushing actually went pretty quick, as I only did the main splinter camo. The Squiggles were handpainted.

Now that looks like an old kit, even I can’t remember box’s like that in the shops. You have done a great job in it, especially that scheme. Really nice.

Yeah, very nice painting on this one - congratulations on a build well done!

Keep ‘em comin’ and have a nice day!

Amazing paint scheme, great build!

Toshi

Really nice paintwork ! [:D][Y]

Even more amazing…an old mid to late 1960s era AIRFIX kit and ya completed it instead of throwing it against wall [:O]

Sweet!!! That squiggle cammo is tough to do. That looks great!

This is supposed to be practice work? Well Id say youre very much warmed up. Really great build.

Oh My ! very well done and in 1/72 to boot.

You certainly have good ,young eyes Lassie, and very artistic as well.

Hi, Owl -

It’s a very nice job you made of it, that camo is difficult and you made it look so realistic. Well done, thanks for the post and photos.

Great job mate! That was one of the first kits that I built when I was around 12-13 yrs old. An unusual, but cool looking plane. I didn’t do the squiggly camo scheme, just the two green camo version.

Cheers,

Martin [:)]

Nice camo scheme! May I ask what you used to brush on the squiggles? I’ve thought of using Q-tips, but a brush probably works as well.

Very well done Owl. I have a new appreciation for the Fw 189. Thanks for sharing…

Fantastic paint job! A real attention-grabber.

Gary

Very nice job. Great scheme.
