Future 911

O.K. I painted my 1/48 P-51 overall chrome silver, (Turned out REAL nice). Sprayed several coats of future over it to seal and protect, right? Well when I masked to paint the nose section blue, that turned out real nice too. When I pulled the tape I quickly realized that the future was coming off and now I have a fuselage that is patchy, unlike the rest of the model. I used Testors low tack masking tape, I thought I would be alright since I’ve never had a problem with future before, but now I don’t know how to fix the blotchy patterns on the fuselage.

Anything anybody can suggest would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Is the Future blotchy or did it affect the silver too?

the paint seems to be o.k. It appears that just the future pulled up

If the paint is ok a second coat of Future should help hide the damage but depending on how thick the first coat was, there might still be a visible line. What happened was the metallic particles in the silver paint makes it hard for other stuff to stick to it, a lot of little metal particles usually comes off with the Future, tape, mask etc. and leaves a mess. Sounds like you got lucky. Try to simulate the damage on a scrap model and repair it before you try it on your 'stang. Hope this helps, best of luck.

Woody,

I think Fish is right. Try masking along the panel lines as well to help make any touch-ups less obvious. Maybe it will end up looking like metal which has been replaced rather than a modeler’s patch job. Hope this helps.

Thanks for help!
