I’m experimenting with chopping model photos into backgrounds. I’ve made a few before with mixed results. Here is one I just spit out and I’m wondering what I could do to improve it;
Any and all suggestions welcome.

Not a bad try. The light angles on the two don’t line up. You might want to blur the tank a little. The focus is much crisper than anything at comperable focus distance.
I too have been using some of my models to learn how to use PS better.
I too have been playing with PS (CS3). Getting better, especially around the edges as time goes on… these being done quite some time ago and in no particular order.

OT… And the Conan O’Brien look (US late night TV host) for a local radio station.
Still not completely satisfied… with my models, my photography or with my PS skills although I have done some really neat/fun stuff at work and people are actually paying for it. [bgr]
Same tank, different theater;
Three suggestions:
Try going around the edges with a very small brush size to blur the edges just a little, especially toward the rear of the tank as the depth of field (sharpness) falls off in the baqckground
Try knocking the opacity down just a hint, say 1 to 2% that will also help blend the foreground and background.
Soften(i.e. lighten) the shadow under the front of the tank. That will help with the light direction issues.
