Fun Smart Car Cabrio Street Rod.

As the title says, this was a lot of STRAIGHT UP FUN [blns].

The skirting on the sides are handmade, and I cut a piece out of the roof to make it a “Cabrio.”

It actually has a motorcycle engine in it that I fabbed up, and put under the rear seat, and added a fun exhaust tip.

I added some vintage wheels and tires after cutting off the front fenders and raising them a bit.

Just little stuff to make it more fun to build.

Wow!Never knew they made…Smart Car models[8-)].What brand is it?

Very cool, great job.

Awesome! “Smart Car” and “street rod”, there are two terms you don’t hear in the same sentance every day[:D] , and yours looks great. I have enjoyed the videos out there of the Hayabusa engine swaps on the 1:1 versions.

That is cute. Love it!

Very cool and well executed.

Hey, “Modeler.”

Revell made these back in the 90s.

I used to see them pop up on eBay several years back, but haven’t seen anything the last few years.

It’s a nice little kit that I don’t remember seeing built except for mine.

They didn’t seem to sell very well [:(].

Superb we have quite a few Smart Cabrio’s here on the streets in the UK, Well Done!

Now!

That is a " Smart for Two" that I Might Drive. That thing is so durned cute I would like to have one. Who makes the Kit? Job Well Done, by the way!

After reading the rest of the thread-Revell, Hmmm. Hey ! got to add to this. I parked next to one yesterday. I have a Kia SOUL remember? Geez, my car looked almost monstrous next to the " Smart"?

As I re-read this I am thinking I have one somewhere in the stash.

They sure are cute.

I have a second one put away in my stash for a project later, as they were pretty hard to find when I found these two.

Fun build that looks great.

What a great model. The real car isn’t much bigger.

:24::thumbsup:

Thank you!!

I remember Revell Pro build or something like that made prepainted Smart Cars. Like a clear window on the box and you could see the car body on top.

Good memory Rob [Y].

Actually, the “Painted Parts” were “molded in color parts” in 3 different colors so you could have a “Patchwork quilt” sort of effect, or just use one color for even different effects.

I thought it was a cool little kit, but evidently, not too many people agreed with me as it seemed to disappear pretty quickly.

Luckily I bought 2 of them and still have one left for a future project I have planned.

The videos are great. I have seen several on Youtube.

I assumed they did some sort of painted, polished plastic combo. The Smart Car was the rage shortly after Katrina and Rita when the Gulf got creamed and gasoline shot up to over $4/gal.

It was a cute little car.

I remember fueling up my '03 Outback and an extra large US SUV (like an Expedition or Suburban) was in the pump behind me. The wife asked how much to put in, and the husband said $5. I remember thinking gas was like $4.24 and that would give them just over a gallon. Probably used more gas driving to the gas station than they were getting.

It was a nice SUV, probably cost twice as much as my Outback, which got around 30 mpg.

My knee jerk reaction was why ? But then why not kicked in. And it is beautifully done! Congrats on a great job well done.

:24:

It was just for fun.

Thanks for the kudos!!!
