Fulton's Steamboat Clermont

Quick question for the group:

I would like to contact anyone who has built the Lindberg Fulton’s Steamboat Clermont.

What I would like is a copy of the instructions, plans, etc…

Thanks.

I’m afraid I can’t help with the instructions, but I do remember the kit. The last time I built it, unfortunately, was quite a few years ago - when I was in high school, I think. I’m pretty sure the only literature that came with it was the usual instruction sheet.

If I remember correctly, the kit dates from either the late fifties or early sixties. It was an original Lindberg product - not a reissue of something from Pyro, as so many ship kits in now in Lindberg boxes are. I guess I have a slightly higher opinion of Lindberg’s ship line than many other modelers do (though I agree completely with the aspersions that have been fired at such awful kits as the Lindberg Hood and “Blue Devil destroyer”). Some of the earlier Lindberg products were - for their time - pretty nice. The Clermont was one of them. I’ve never been a big fan of motorized models, but that one, with its carefully-concealed electric motor and batteries driving the more-or-less scale gears, piston, crosshead, etc., struck me as pretty ingenious. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on that kit again. I imagine some of my pleasant memories would crash on the rocks of reality, but it would be a fun exercise in nostalgia.

For what it’s worth, we had an interesting discussion of the Clermont sometime back here in the Forum. Here’s the link: http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/500757/ShowPost.aspx

Good luck.

Thanks.

Hi,

I just joined the group. My interests lie in Hudson River Steamboats, the Clermont or North River as it was really named.

It may be a little too late. I have never built the Lindberg model. I do, however have 3-4 of the kits and copies of the assembly instructions. If you are still in need please contact me. I may be able to help you out with spare parts as well.

What are you asking for one of the kits.

Are all the kits the same?

Thanks

Gleason

Hi Gleason,

Not really wanting to sell any of the kits just yet. I picked up the ones I have from Ebay. They are offered frequently. I have them for my interest in Robert Fulton and his steamboats. If you want just the instructions I can copy and send to you if you provide address and e-mail.

There are 3 variations of the Lindberg model that I know of. I believe that the differences are in the packaging and marketing. The color of the molding plastic may also be different.

The Ideal Toy Co. also had their version. They sold out to Ringo and licensed to Kleenware in Europe. So they have 3 versions also.Let me know what you want to do and I;ll see if I can help you out.

Hers a video of what I’m working on now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkuYkmCTiiU The model is being donated to the Clermont State Historic Site. Paddlewheels are 15" in diameter. (1/12 scale)
