Fujimi 1/72 F4U-1/4/5(N) Complete

Well folks, I present my Fujimi 1/72 F4U-5(N), Which seems more like a F4U-1 with a funny cowl and a 4 bladed prop + radar dome. Since the plastic in the box was more or less a ‘what if’, and decals for 1/72 -5N’s few and far between, I used marking for a F4U-4!. According to Scalemates, the plastic is from 1964 and I sure belive it. As a result, some of the cruder bits (such as wheels, antenna and guns) had to be replaced. As such, the wheels are resin resplacements and I scratch built the guns, antenna and pitot tube. The biggest challenge the kit presented was the canopy (F4U-1 Variet canopy BTW). The fit was horrible, so I glued it in, mainly to provide support for a layer of apoxie sculpt, which I shaped with sanding sponge-sticks and then painted black. Finally, just for fun, and repositioned the elevators and rudder (the kit provides separate airlerons, so I followed suite with the tail surfaces). Surprisingly, the kit 5 in rockets were quite usable. This was a challenging build, but I am happy with the results.

Thanks Jim!

Well put together, Chris. I too like your photo work.

That looks great.

Belated thank you John and and lurch!

That black canopy gives it a mean look. Overall a clean build, reminiscent of the kind of model you might see on some executive’s corner-office mahogany desk. And I agree that those photos are fantastic.
