FSM subscription

I just got my renewal notice in the mail and it looks like FSM is going to cost me $40.80 for one year. I’ve subscribed for over twenty years now but to be honest the last few years have been for nostalgia and loyalty to the magazine. It’s nothing like it was when I first signed up. As my age is getting up there now I can imagine my family going through my collection of FSMs and tossing them into the recycling bin someday. Could someone please give me some reason why I should keep subscribing? While I’m at it, other than attending the Nationals this year and needing an IPMS membership to place my models on the tables, what are the benefits of belonging to the IPMS? Thanks!

Hi Tom,

Far be it from us to tell you why you should or shouldn’t maintain a subscription to anything. That’s entirely up to you and what you feel you can and do get out of it. As I have said before, there is no stigma for having graduated from FSM. If we aren’t fulfilling your needs, then it’s okay to move on. Would we like you to remain a subscriber? Absolutely! We believe we have something useful and fun to share with modelers, no matter the skill level. And if you decide you miss FSM, we’ll be here. Thank you for your support over the years.

Reminder: This is the FSM Forum. For those who are tempted to come in and use this thread as a chance to deride FSM the brand, our staff, or our subscribers, we’ll shut it down. Frankly, we’ll do the same if it turns into a “slam IPMS” thread, too. Keep it positive or don’t bother posting here. Plenty of space elsewhere for that.

Hi, I’m a long time subscriber and I have to say enjoying the variety of interests being catered for. Things change and time moves on.

Joe

Fine line between customer concerns and issues and ‘deriding’ the brand. Up to interpretation from the listener I suppose.

Not really. Constructive criticism is easy to recognize. Contempt, ridicule, derision, and disrespect are, too.

But it’s pretty simple in this case: Tom is asking for reasons to maintain his subscription, not reasons to let it lapse. He has those already. Same thing with IPMS. He’s put it in as positive a light as he can. So, let’s keep further discussion focused on Tom’s query.

I find IPMS very difficult to deal with. I have been trying to renew my membership for a month (even getting help from an IPMS official) and still cannot make it work! Their password requirements are more complex than any of my bank or investment sites!
