Fruil track questions

I am looking for ways to paint, weather,or age the track. How do I prepare it? Wash in hot soapy water and rinse? Wash in vinegar and rinse? Do I need a primer?

Some one I think said to use Radio Shack liquid to etch circuit boards to give them either a rust or black color. Has anyone used this? How about Rust All, has anyone used it?

Has anyone built a jig to position the track to pin it? I am using small straight pins tapped in place, clip off the head and then tapped in flush with a very small punch. You have to figure out how far to tap in the pins so that you can clip off the head and then set the pin fluch so it does not come out the other side. I bought some junk links and worked on this technique.

How do you get the tiny grease fitting on so they don’t wear out too fast.[;)]

Grease fittings??

I’ll tell you how I finish my Fruils…

I dip the finished runs in laquer thinner (careful, it can disolve CA), and let them air dry. Then I paint them flat black (enamel). When dry, I dry brush them with Model Master steel. Then I “rust” them with a wash mixture of Humbrol leather and burnt sienna oil paint (a couple of coats, to your desired effect). When that’s dry, I buff the high points with a rubber wheel on my dremmel tool. (If they were plastic, I would do a highlight dry brush with silver.)

I soak my fruil tracks rail weathing solution ,the longer that they soak the better the color is and you can pick it up at any rail shop or our local shop can order it

This is pretty much the same way I do my Fruil tracks… Except I just wash them in soapy water BEFORE I assemble them, then spray flat black AFTER assembly…[;)]

i use blacken-it. Just wash the tracks and dip them in a diluted solution and after about 5 mn, they are nicely blackened…and weathered.
