Thanks for the response. I kind of figured that may have been the case with your decals. The newer Roden decals are supposed to be better, but there’s no telling if a kit has the newer decals or not.
I’ll have to look into the Eagle Strike or Americal/Griffon lozenge when the time comes for that build.

thanx 4 the kind comments !
Roden makes a D.Vii in 1/48, but the build is apparently trickier than the 1/72
because the front section (where most of the variations r between D.Vii models)
has 6 separate pieces 2 put together & none of them fit too well…
haven’t built the 1/48 version myself, but there was a review of it in a british modeling
mag awhile back & the problem was mentioned…
in 1/72, they just use a different 2-pc. fuselage mold 4 each variant,
so that’s not a problem 4 this kit. [:D]
lozenge decals r easier 2 apply in sections, but if the decals r decent u can
basically float them onto the wings w/ lots of water… on my W29, the huge
lozenge decals 4 the upper surface of the wings went on pretty smoothly,
altho’ getting them 2 stay there took a bit of convincing !
the testors Nieuport 17 is a fun kit 2 build, i am just about at the point
where i need 2 drill some holes 4 rigging the one i’ve been working on.
i’d love 2 see pix of urs !

thanx 4 ur kind comments & 4 checking out my build !
i took some pix of the dvii this am, but they r not so good…
i will hopefully finish the rigging this weekend, take better pix
& b ready 2 post next week…
Nice work on the D-VII, the white looks very nice. I have never done a WW-I bird in plastic, but I did one of Ernst Udet’s D-VIIs for one of my RC birds a couple years ago. He actually flew quite a few different planes, most of which had the “LO” on them somewhere. I chickened out on hand painting the lozenge pattern on my RC plane and just did it in plain red. More photos can be viewed at: www.bellevillercflyers.com/gallery/album04 . He must have been an arogant SOB to fly such a gawdy machine in combat. With 62 victories and surviving the war, I guess he was entitled to be that way. He was second only to Baron Manfred Von Richtofen in aerial victories.
here r the latest pix:
not the greatest pix, i’m afraid…
but u can still just make out the bracing wires between the axle wing
& fuselage & the ones between the fin/rudder & horizontal tailplane…
i have added 2 control wires between the fuselage & rudder since
these pix were taken… & one of the bracing wires on the tail fell off
while i was doing that, but i’ll replace it asap…

i like the look of ur ‘LO!’… i think it’s so cool that u actually
build stuff that flies !!!
i was originally going 2 do this DVii as Ulrich Neckel’s
black & white striped a/c, but when the upper wing lozenge came out badly,
i decided 2 try & come up w/ my own version of wwi markings.
after this DVii, i think it would b fun 2 build ‘LO!’ & ‘Li’ (Rudolph Stark’s a/c)
as a pair… [:D]
