Friulmodel metal tracks for Dragon Kingtiger

Hello Everyone,

After a very long hiatus ( kids, wife, dog, etc) I am looking to build my first kit in about 30 yrs. I have bought the Dragon King tiger (porsche turret) and even though I like the smart tracks that come with the kit I want to use the Friulmodel metal tracks. Does anyone know really what set would be best to use? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all

Try ATL-22 also pacific coast models has them for only $29.99

Welcome back to the madness. I would go… actually… have gone with, ATL-16. The 22’s are transport tracks. You will see these on some vehicles but unless you have a ref that show the tank with transport tracks… use the 16’s.

welcome back Radtherapy . real Quick coming back you DO NOT want the Friulmodel 22s i have been using them on my Dragon Jagdtiger and i work on it a little at a time. what a mess. stick with 16’s 37’s or 42 transport track. hope this helped.

Marc, i think he is right suggesting 22. These are the 2 piece links that go with the early 18 tooth sprocket. set 16 goes with the later 9 tooth sprocket, i have used these myself. The transport tracks are set 21. Set 41 also looks like early 2 piece links and would be ok, not sure what the difference is.

Count how many teeth the sprocket has. If its 9 then its set 16, if its 18 then set 22 or 41. I am not sure when they switched the tracks so can’t be certain if some Porsche turreted vehicles had the 9 tooth sprocket. The photos on the box do look like set 16

Clay, set 37 are the one itroduced in March 45 so are deffinatly no good.

Perhaps your right Marc,I don’t know, but the description doesn’t say transport track like it says on some others. But the price is $32.95 which is still a deal .

Bish you may be correct. My memory is not what is used to be… heck what am I talking about… what memory??? I am wondering if they changed the package from what they show on their site. When I did my Jagdtiger some months ago, I bought the wrong tracks and I though tit said transports on the box. But they looked like 22 with the bottom piece as shown actually being 4 pieces. The middle larger piece and the 3 little vertical separate pieces. Must be a bear to build.

EDIT sorry to ave doubted you Bish your are correct… the transports are in fact 21[:D[ [;)]

Well i did cheat, i checked the Hannants site. And i had spent an hour the other day trying to figure out which sets of KT tracks i would need for my E-50 and 75. The KT kit is also confusing as it shows the one piece links on the box art one the vehicle in winter scheme, but also includes marking for vehicles in Normandy, so really it should come with 2 tracks and sets of sprockets.

The bloody Germans have to make everything awkward.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I had already purchased the ATL 22 as I thought they were used on the early porsche versions of the King and the Jadgtiger. The box art shows what looks to be the ATL 16. ( the drive sprocket with the kit has the 9 teeth)I will probably buy the 16 and possibly use the 22’s on the jadgtiger I have at a later date. I see a couple of things haven’t changed of the years- the need to always do the research before starting and the people willing to help someone out. Thanks again all

Cheers

I will check tomorrow when i get back to barracks as to when they made the switch from 18 to 9 tooth sprockets. It may be possible that a couple of the marking options you have require the 18 tooth. Which one are you doing.

I was going to use the 9 sprocket but at this point nothing is written in stone. I just wanted to collect all the aftermarket parts for the kit before I started.

If you are doing the white washed vehicle, or even the one in Arnhem, then you are pretty safe as by this point the veichle woulkd have had new tracks fitted and the sprocket would have been changed accordanly. If you are doing one in Normandy, you may need the 18 tooth sproket, but some Fruil track sets have sprockets in them so that would be easy to do.

Thanks bish. Not sure if the tracks come with the other sprocket but I will have to wait till they get here in the mail.
