Friul Tracks and Blacken It

First time I’ve ever used Friul Tracks. Have just completed assembly of some Friul tracks for this Tamiya Wespe I’m working on. Had some question about the technique of weathering them with Blacken It.

How long should I let the tracks soak in the Blacken It solution?
Rinse off good in water?
Will oil-based washes work ok directly over the Blacken It weathered tracks, or do I need to add a clearcoat?

Last question on Friul Tracks. When I pick up model the tracks hang down from the roadwheels about 3/8th of an inch due to some slack in tracks and weight of tracks and gravity, of course. Would I be better off glueing the tracks down on the bottom-side of the roadwheels so they won’t sag when the model is picked up? Or leave them alone?

Glenn

first off, let it sit for about 2 minutes and then give it a good rinse. then let them air-dry. No clear/dull etc. coats needed what so ever. And finally, you dont need to glue them.

Also, if you have not done it. give them a good wash and spray in engine de-greaser. t gets all of the oil and what not off.

The tracks sag in real life so it’s up to you if you want to glue or not.

I think he means on the bottom. Not on the return rollers. Like if you pick up the model and tracks dangle …

Exactly! Anyone glue them? Or no?

Glenn

If they are likely to fall off when picked up I’d glue them, though thats probably not very likely, otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Just put it on a permanent base and you wont have to worry [:)]

I wouldn’t glue them. Just my personal opinion. You might wish later that you hadn’t.

The link is’nt working (for me)

I was wondering where to get Blacken-it as well as the Friul Tracks [?]

Most of the on line stores have them. I know I just got some from Hometown Hobbies. Your LHS may carry the Blacken It - one near me does, but I doubt they would carry the Friuls, as most of the stores I’ve seen don’t. They’re a bit expensive, so they probably don’t want to stock them, but if you ask them they might be able to order them for you.

Don’t know why that other link won’t work try this, then put blacken it in the keyword.

Got it! Thanks!

Well so far so good. Soaked both sets of tracks for about 10 minutes. Their drying right now. Will do another soak tomorrow.

I bought one bottle of Blacken It from Micro-Mark online. The other bottle I have I found at my LHS.
