Anyone else out there interested in this subject? I am always trying to find info on the Char B1 bis, Char D2, SOMUA S-35, Renault R-35. Hotchkiss H-39, etc.
Anyone?
Chris,
It’s not so easy to find infos on these char.
There is some interresting website, but in french, unfortunately !
I will have a look to these topic, and come back to you asap
Pics? Check this! Probably the best site for French armour, any period.
You may also consider subscribing to Minitracks mag (in dual French/English languages) and get copies of the books in the Trackstory series (also in 2 languages, every sngle words of it!)
By the way, a French Armor Group Build is loooong overdue! Any takers?
Why not ? It should be great !
Chris , what are you looking for about those tanks ?
Yes!
M.
Great! There are others interested. I have been collecting things over the years and this is what I have accumulated:
NKC AMR 33 ( on the bench)
NKC FCM 36
MB Models Char B1 bis
Heller SOMUA S35
Heller Renault R35
RPM Renault UE
Matchbox Char B1 bis/FT 17 (1/72)
I had my chance to get MB Models Char D2 but I didn’t move on it. I still want to get around the getting Heller’s Hotchkiss H39 and RPM’s FT17. I do have quite a few references but my French translating skills are that great. I have Steelmasters, After the Battle, AFV Profiles, and other magazines that I can’t recall at the moment. I have a copy of Chars B au Combat (Histoire & Collections Books ) coming. I have been looking on getting a copy of After the Battle’s Blitzkrieg in the West book. Thanks to all that answered this post. I have been to the LES UNITES
DE CHARS FRANCAIS website and it is very interesting.
I am glad I posted to this forum.
I’ve got tons of French stuff in 1/72 - 1/76, some in 1/100, a couple in 1/35…
Looks like we have a nucleus of interested parties for this GB… What about a Feb-March 05 start?
I will be in Ivory Coast at this time but I’ll try to read your post from other there
I’m currently working on a Cheniellete Lorraine from RPM.
A very basic kit but a pleasure to detail ans scrtachbuilt different parts.
Have a look on it: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/maquette.garden/En%20cours/chenillette/chenillette.htm
When are you available then, Pierre!?
Trumpeter is coming out with 2 kits of the H39. They will have a French version and a German version coming out in november.
Hey Erik,
Did you find the Trumpeter H39 info on the internet?
Also count me in on the group build.
Chris, check out Trumpeter on www.perthmilitarymodelling.com
I’ve got an MB Models Char B1 bis in resin that’s been gathering dust on the shelf for about the last 100 years. I could probably get into a build. I’ve got a Souma and a Hotchkiss as well.
Hi Steve,
The MB Models Char B1is an interesting kit, I think. I have FSM’s review of it somewhere. I have seen a built up kit and it was very nice. Mike Bishop who produced the kit lives in my area and so I got the kit from the source a few years back. I wish I had got his Char D2 kit when I had the chance.
Thanks for answering my post. Perhaps we can a group build going on this subject.
I hope in June. But don’t worry about me else you’ll never start [:D][:D][:D][:D]
Over on HobbyLink Japan apparently Pit Road (SkyWave) is due to release in December a 1/35th H39 Hotchkiss for about $39.

Huh, wonder why all the interest in the Hotchkiss in particular? Did Trumpeter and Pit Road sit down together and say “let’s pick a subject and compete?” [:D] One of them should have done a Char instead.
