French and Polish armour 1939/40

Hi,

I’m new to this excellent forum web page - also after many years of inactivity due to other comittments like raising a young family, have only recently begun modeling kitsets again.

Particularly keen on French and Polish armour from pre and early WWII, and looking to create various dioramas from this period over time, either 1/35 or 1/72 and 1/75 - priorities probably 1/35 at this stage though.

Currently have several Heller French kits ready and waiting, but would really appreciate any help/advice anyone’s got on this topic, pictures of completed kits/dioramas etc to give me some ideas - does anyone know how or where I might be able to get hold of a Char B1bis, even if it’s 1/48? I gather RPM do some very good Polish kits?? Have had trouble finding many pictures of completed dioramas of Poland 1939 while trawling through the net.

Any help much appreciated,

adsnz

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to modeling Adsnz. Can’t really help you with your question but there are alot here that i’m sure can. I am thinking about putting some polish decals on my SU-85 now but thats late war and it’s russian anyway.

Bronco models http://www.bronco-model.com and Trumpeter have realesed the Hotchkiss H35/39 and Airdale castings do update kits for the Somua http://www.accurate-armour.com/showarmdistproducts.cfm?CFID=3927672&CFTOKEN=81662033&manufacturer=31&cat=53&subcat=165

RPM/Mirage make an very impressive range of Polish 1930s and WW2 AFV kits, including:

  • single and twin-turreted 7TP light tank
  • Vickers 6-ton light tank
  • TKS and TK3 tankettes
  • C7P gun tractor
  • 1920s Ford TC armoured car
  • experimental light self-propelled gun (can’t remember the name; possibly TKS-D?)

All of these kits are quite cheap and easy to find here in the UK - don’t know about the US though.

A company called Encore also make an injection-moulded kit of the Wz.34 armoured car, but this is a bit harder to find.

Also, this site has loads of information on Polish military vehicles:

Glad you could join us here. You’ll get lots of great info and tips here in these Forums from some outstanding people.

Since you wanted to see some models, here are a couple old pics of two builds that I did. I need to refurbish them a bit and get better pics, but this is what I have now for you.

This first one is a Matchbox 1/72 scale double kit consisting of the Char B1 bis and the Renault Ft 17 tank. It also comes with several figures and a diorama/vignette base as well.

This particular kit is out of production, however, you may still be able to get a few on E-bay or other sites online that specialize in hard-to-get kits. I’ve been trying to get another one to make into German as well.

This next one is the Heller 1/72 scale Soumua tank. I had also built one of these in German ‘livery’ as well.

So far, unless you go resin, these are the only injection molded plastic kits of early French tanks that I’m aware of. I’d love to get more, but haven’t found any, nor do I have the funds for resiin kits at this time.

I’ll try to get some better pics a bit later and post them here so you can see them better. I hope these help and good luck with your project.

im currently working (and am almost done with) teh mirage 7tp single turret. its a great kit! i really enjoyed building it, no real big problems except the tracks are 3-4 track links to long.
a company (i think mirage) makes a poland 1939 dio kit. i dont know if its only a base or it comes with all the vehicles too.

Hello there!

I’m on my way to finish of a RPM kit wich are a deriative of the Vickers tank. It is called Pzlnz 126 and in the Polish text says something of 1940. Because they there occupied in 1940 maybe it is an what if product. Does anyone know more about this vehicle?

But except for that it is very nice kit indeed, also supplied with link by link tracks so it is possible to get they right sag to the tracks.
