Freaky Engine arrangement

Now, I’ve seen some weird stuff. (I’m building an eight-engined Zwilling for Pete’s sake!) But this really caught my eye. Now, I love contra-props, and am somewhat familier with the gearing behind them. But this is the first time I’ve seen… well, this:

I guess this arragement worked rather well, it’s just a little more than unorthadox! I just had to share this pic.

10 points to whoever can identify what aircrat this is from!

I can only say, what the [censored] is that???
Is that a real thing?

That is the Engine set up on the Bristol Brabazon.

Geez Mike, where do you keep digging this stuff up??? Great Pic, but I’d like to see you build a working model of that. LOL

Freaky indeed. Thanks for posting.

This is what happens if you let commisions decide/guess what aircraft airlines want.
utter commercial failure

Those are eight Bristol Centaurus motors driving one prop each, and a flying model has been done.

I have seen the flying model, but I’m not sure if the contra-prop arragement was adopted. Unfortunatly no kit of the Brabazon exists (I think), but I’d love to build it, especially with the engine panels open, as in the pics.

The plane looks a little goofy, with what appears to be four puny engines flying a monster of an aircraft. It did fly, though. Check it out sometime.

Damn! Someone beat me to it! Definitely the Bristol Brabazon. Used to have some really old books once with some great photo’s. Long gone now unfortunately

Do a search here for ‘Brabazon’ and you’ll find a few images…

Fade to Black…

Jeez I feel old!
I actually saw the thing fly. also the SARO Princess,
Now that would make a great kit but probably not very saleable.
Dai

A shame that know one has produced a kit of it. Maybe one day. Bryan
