The Formula One series originated with the European Championship of Grand Prix motor racing of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. What is now known as Formula One started in 1950 and has become the pinnacle of motor sports racing. There’s no lack of excitement and drama… just watch the last race in Abu Dhabi from last year where the championship came down to the last very controversial lap. Formula One has an extremely colorful history with such great names as

  • Juan Manuel Fangio
  • Jim Clark
  • Emerson Fittipaldi
  • Michael Schumacher
  • Sir Jackie Stewart
  • Sir Stirling Moss
  • Alain Prost
  • Ayrton Senna
  • James Hunt & Nikki Lauda - portrayed in the 2013 movie Rush
    And this list goes on. The current rivalry of Lewis Hamilton (could be best of all time) vs Max Verstappen is a lot of fun to witness.

For the group build -

  • Any scale/era Formula One car (must have completed at least one lap in a Grand Prix)
  • And as a nod to our history - any European Championship Grand Prix car prior to Formula One
  • Crossovers welcome
  • Starts with no more than 10%
  • Participation and many pics a must.

Runs from the start of the 2022 Formula One season in Bahrain March 20th 2022 through March 20th 2023.

I am definitely “F1 Curious”. I am the slowest car around the track, but sign me up please.

The truth is I’m trying to get a car modeler buddy to build something, so nothing like a taunt to get both of us started. But I’m warning you all, I’m going to do something weird!

Now that is how to get me motivated. I’m excited about this GB and haven’t even started yet. Definately count me in on this one! I will choose the car to build and let you know shortly.

Can you tell I’m excited for this group build???

My IJN Yamato is around a week or two from completion and this will be n-e-x-t, bumping everything else on my GB list.

John, I’m not quite committing but this sounds intriguing.

You are right, the pics Ben posted are motivational, and Ben, there’s something about that #18…I really like that one.

Let me follow along for a while and see if I get my lazy self to my bench later this spring or not, John.

BTW these Tamiya kits (The Honda RA272 I posted early and this one) are a joy to build.

I’ll be watching the thread, and will check the stash when able. I know I have a couple Tamiya kits there. Might even have that Honda. This is a great reason to start one.

The Formula One season starts tomorrow at 10:55 AM EDT on ESPN. The Grand Prix of Bahrain. Just so happens thats when this group build kicks off!

The first race of the 2022 season is underway in Bahrain (ESPN) and while we are short on folks on the roster I’m hoping to pickup a few more builders that responded to the feeler along the way. The build is open so crack open the kits!

I bought the kit off of eBay and the seller included the Marlboro decal sheet. Interesting variation in the orange/red decals

The body is beautifuly molded in a shiny white plastic
