I did this vig awhile ago,I happened to have both kits of this jeep. I was thinking
of some way to portray a recon mission and got to thinking of a jungle road that hasnt been used in awhile. So Ford Mutts in Vietnam. m afraid my knowledge about these vehicles is a little lacking.
Enjoy![:)]
Very nice!!
Nice build, but theTOW system on the 151 was not in use then, they were still using the 106mm recoiless rifle. TOW was still in the developement and early test stage
Looks pretty good, but, they are the wrong version for Vietnam. In Vietnam, the M151A1 MUTT was used. These are M151A2 MUTTs, which were not introduced till early to mid-1970’s and not used in Vietnam. Also, as noted above, the TOW was not around in this configuration in Vietnam either. Also, you have them built in the USMC version with extended intake snorkels and exhuast stacks, not US Army version. It would be better to say these are mid-1970-80s M151A2s on a recon patropl in say Korea or some other tropical environ. However, by that time frame, MERDC camo was used, not dark green overall on the vehicles. Lastly, your figures don’t match either. Some are wearing late 1970s -1990s “Y” shaped web gear and PAGST vest, others have WWII style web gear, some have Vietnam era “H” style web gear. The inconsistencies are great, can’t put an actual time frame on the Dio. I am sorry to say, that I have noticed this about most of your dios that you have posted. The figures and/or vehicles don’t usually match the timeframe you are modeling. This is the only fault I can usually find. You do great work, just not historically accurate. Try finding some referances to improve the accuracy. Looks great. Don’t take this as a knock on you, just adding my insight.
Have to go along with John and Gino on this one Russ. As a Marine in Vietnam 1966-1967 timeframe all we had was the 106mm recoiless, and we mounted them mainly on mules, or we had the Ontos with six 106mm recoiless rifles. The Tow had not been in the Marine, or Army inventory at that time, and I saw alot of the I Corps in that time frame. Never the less as Gino stated, your work is top notch just not historically accurate. I’m guilty of it also, but since becoming a member of the forums I try to do a little research or ask questions before I start a new build. We have some very knowledgeable and generous folks here who bend over backwards to provide invaluable data and resources. Semper Fi, mike
Should mention that in all my time in,I only saw one(1) 151, either A1 or A2 whose data plate showed Ford as the manufacturer, in fact most US auto makers made them
Well I somehow knew that this vig wasnt right,it has been around for quite some time, was much younger when it was completed, anyways,I thank you all for your insights and knowledge, one had to be there to know! I obviously don
t do my dios and vignettes
to be historically correct,I do them to have fun building something!!
[:D] your kits and dio look great,i know they are not right, but you had fun doing it,and that is all that matters[:D]
Doing them for fun is half the fun. I got tired of contests and judges, so now I build for my own enjoyment and only worry about pleasing myself. but I learn while I do them
Please don’t be offended by my comments with regard to your excellent dioramas Russ. It was just a techinical thing we were speaking of and has no bearing on the outstanding work you produce now or produced a hundred years ago. Thank you for being good enough to share your work with us. I’m not a rivet counter myself, it was just an observation based on my own experience of long ago. Semper Fi, mike
