Hello everyone, I completed this a few weeks ago. This is AMT’s kit with Coca Cola decals. Came with the two vending machines, large crate, 5 50 gallon drums and a push broom. I could not get the Tilt to work, it gets blocked on something a quarter of the way up.
Very nice build! I’m not a big fan of AMT’s practice of labeling everything a Coca Cola vehicle but for this rig it’s appropriate. I’ve heard that these old AMT truck kits can be “challenging” builds. I’ve always wanted to build this kit as the truck that Clint Eastwood is driving at the beginning of “Every Which But Loose”
Thanks for looking in on this.
Mr. Tom you should get yourself one, it really is not that bad of a kit. If you could put Clint in the driver seat, now that would be cool.
Sprue, it has a nice engine under there (not that mine looks that great.), would be nice to see it.
Keavdog, put a quarter in and let’s see what pops out. Lo!.
If you like the front end but not the stake bed, they have a box truck and a garbage truck kit.
@NucMedTech - lookin’ good! It’s squeeky clean for a hard working truck though!
I wanted to ask maybe somebody knows how would a tandem axle/duplex drive setup look like on a Ford with a cab like that - I need that for one of my future projects.
Hee, heee - that’s a good one… I meant more like: what would be the suspension - one or two pairs of springs? Hendrickson? And what would be the axles - Rockwells? I had problems finding such info online.
Great looking truck NucMedTech. Well finished. I haven’t built that one, nor do I have it in the stash, but I know how those kits go together and you did a pretty good job. Nice to see another one in the truck forum.
@pawel there are a lot of different Ford C series trucks, 600, 800, 900. A large number were single drive axle trucks. If you want a tandem drive you are actually looking for a CT series truck, “T” for tandem.
Reference is a bit scarce for the CTs, I’m not sure if Ford used proprietary suspension on the tandems, but most manufacturers used other makes of rear suspension at times. This site has basic explanation of the types, some newer than others.
You could probably source a tandem unit from another kits and fit it to the Ford frame.
My older brother’s father in law had a home heating oil business years ago and I believe that he had a tanker truck like this Ford to deliver the oil. Does anyone make a 3-D printed or resin fuel tank for this Ford kit?
Yep, fairly common truck chassis over the years it was produced. Most of the time it’s recognizable by the cab no matter if garbage truck, semi, farm truck etc. Many fire trucks of that era actually also used the same chassis while getting the custom bodywork dropped onto it, so probably more widely used than most people know.
My plan is to build something like this in 1/72. I could put a Mack camelback there, or rears from an M35, but I don’t think that would be right - then again, if nobody knows and nobody cares about it, then such rears would be as good as any.
Interesting. Looks like the same trucks with different tanks. Maybe updated tanks during the years of service….?
I did some looking, found these. Some are GMC not Ford. Similar era.
Hello! It’s interesting to also see GMCs being used for a tanker truck! I like your idea of checking out that R-11 kit. scalemates has the instructions for it, and from these it can beseen, that the R-11 has a Hendrickson walking beam suspension on the rear - I think I’ll use that in my model once I get to designing it one day.
Have a nice day
