For you A-10 fans

(Shameless plug… I work for a newspaper, I’m involved with the website.)

Our town is next to Fort Bragg/Pope AFB. Pope has a squadron of A-10’s- 23rd Fighter Group, in fact. Cool history.

Anyway, our military reporter did this story on upgrades to the A-10’s that you A-10 fans might find interesting. Went up today- the link is only good for 7 days though. (Sorry…)

Oh cool, I love hogs. Come to think of it I should get round to that 1/48 one on the workbench. [:)]

Nice little article! Thanks! The A-10 reminds me of the A-1 of the Vietnam fame. Old, slow, long “legs” but packs a wallop!

It’s about time the air force got it’s head out of it’s a** and upgraded the warthog. The A-10 has to be the best value the USAF has flown in the last 30 years. I can’t wait to see a finished aircraft. Yhanks for the info.

Hoo, hee! Mike has the right of it! I’m sitting here, cackling with fiendish glee! A certain General of the Air Force, back in the early ninety’s, was POed at his son, who flew and loved the A-10. Even after the Gulf War, he wanted to retire the 'Hog. A few of us wrote our Congresscritturs to say, “Dump ____, not the 'Hog!”
Now, he’s long retired, and the 'Hog flies on.

In all fairness, it was probably one of the very few mistakes in judgement that particular general ever made.

People, most especially the Air Force, keep forgetting why the A-10 exists: Viet Nam. We had only one aircraft, of any kind, that could come close to doing an adequate job of long duration ground support. That was the A-1 Skyraider.

It seems that the Air Force (and perhaps the Navy) (and very definitely Con-gress) needs to be reminded—VERY often—that “air superiority” doesn’t mean doodly squat if you can’t move mud for the guys who are down in the mud—whenever, wherever, and for as long as they need it, on five seconds notice or less.
