I just thought I’d show some pics of the 1/72 scale ACE BMP I’m building right now. It is a work in progress and so is not painted yet. The first pic shows how I fixed the gaps in the front hull. The second pic shows the kit with the top just placed on the lower hull assembly. The gold things on the kit are the Photo Etched parts that have been giving me fits! They are so small! I didn’t buy them, they are included in the kits themselves. I’m also building a 2S1 Gvozdila Self-propelled gun as well, but didn’t get any photos of it.
Now, on to the show!
I wish to thank rongeorge for his generosity in allowing me to post these Thank you Ron and Semper Fi!
Duke Maddog:
thanx 4 the pix !
ur BMP is looking good so far; let me know how the p/e works out, because i’ve never done any and this might b a good way 2 try it out w/o having 2 get an aftermarket set & spend extra cash ! never done a resin kit, either…
have a good weekend !

Thanks everyone! I did a little bit more on it today, mostly just painting the lower hull. I’m going to apply the same camo pattern as my Marder. Also frosty, these are injection molded plastic kits, fortunately! I can’t afford resin! They only cost me $11.00 at my LHS. These Ace kits are my first try using P/E parts also. I actually waited a couple months before starting these because the P/E was too frightening for me for awhile. I guess I’d been reading too many P/E horror stories posted in these Forums!
The P/E can be nerve wracking, mostly because the P/E pieces in these kits are so SMALL! Just remember one thing: contrary to what you feel like doing, grip the P/E parts lightly in the tweezers, or you’ll “tweezerpult” your piece into the Void. So far it hasn’t happened to me. (knock on wood!) Simply move slowly and carefully, and grip each piece lightly. Use the dull edge of an exacto blade to carefully fold the pieces, and then get a very thin piece of wire to apply the CA glue to the edge of the P/E piece. I use a gap filling for that, since it takes longer to set. Once it is glued in place, you can add more thin CA with capillary action to reinforce it.
Here’s a pic of my Revell/Germany 1/72 scale German Marder so you can see the pattern I’m going to use on my “bimp” when it’s done.
Good looking BMP!
Is it a BMP-1? I can’t tell a -1 from a -2. The -3 is quite different, though.
(Nevermind! I just re-read the topic name and realized it’s a BMP-1A1!)
Looking forward to seeing the finished Bimp!
Thanks everyone! I’ve got more pics in another thread for everyone to see more progress. I definitely feel like I’m getting a workout with that tiny P/E set!
