This footage shows a tank duel near Cologne cathedral early March. I found it while searching the web.
When I first saw this footage, I was so heartbroken to see that one of the sherman crew members had his leg blown off, slowly crawling off the sherman tank. Although heartbreaking it did inform me that tanks did not just blow up. How does a tank crew know when to get out?
Yup, Classic footage but like Tigerman, I haven’t seen it put together like this before with the overhead shots of the city. Very interesting and gives a great perspective on the engagement. Yes it is hard to watch when you see it’s not just machines but rather people piling out of the machines maimed and suffering.
How does a crew know when to get out? When their TC yells “Get out” – it’s pretty obvious when your tank’s been hit. The TC with the shorn leg eventually died from blood loss.
Yes – this is all horrific stuff. It should keep us and our toy miniatures in the proper perspective.
