I have been playing around with bare metal finishes using aluminium foil and also the bare metal foil product but i was wondering if anybody has tried the HVAC peel and stick type aluminium foil tape? it comes in different thicknesses and strengths as well as some can be stretched to contour surfaces? if you have please let me know. if I dont get any responses then I guess i am going to experiment and post pics
I haven’t tried HVAC tape, but the one concern I’d have is that it might be too bright. You might want to try to knock some of the sheen off before you apply it to a model. Good luck, and let us know how it works.

Unless its really thin, forget about it. Im a telecom cable splicer and we have aluminum tape that`s similar to HVAC tape and the idea of using it for my hobby occured to me also. Compared to BMF the stuff we have is kinda thick. I tried it on an old P-51 I had lying around and sadly, none of the fine details like rivets and access panels got through. BUT…some details did get through so my suggestion is to experiment on one of your “downed” aircraft. You might want to try regular tinfoil with Microscale metal foil adhesive…worked well for me in the past. Good luck and keep us posted.
I’ve used it and the main problem with it is that the adhesive isn’t a uniform thickness… Makes for a lumpy-look on 1/48th…It works ok on large-scale models, but you have to burnish hell out of it… The best way to use it, IMHO, is to sand everything smooth, apply it, then add the lines and rivets afterwards…
