FM Do-24T construction update

This weekend has been mostly devoted to work on the Do-24. The first problem I needed to deal with was that canopy gap. I added a shim to one side of the canopy and added alignment pieces to both sides of the pit and at the back top area for the canopy to slide overtop of. This was to help spread the canopy a bit to improve the fit and prevent the top from buckling.

I filled the remaining gap with medium superglue and accelerator. Keep in mind that this canopy has been well treated with Future first to help avoid fogging and the accelerator causes the glue to set super fast reducing the fumes that cause fogging. Once the gap was filled and sanded I painted the area RLM-66 then finished the seam with Mr. Surfacer 500. I did it in this order to provide interior color on the canopy.

Next I worked on the wing attachment points, boy was this a nightmare. Turns out the side support struts were all about a quarter inch short of making the mark. With a laminated chunk of stock styrene I fashioned a new section of strut, cut that into small lengths and inserted pieces in each support member to achieve the fit and keep the correct alignment of the parts.

I chose a spot on the strut where a seam already existed to saw off the top and insert the new extension. This meant I had only one seam to worry about getting completely smoothed out.

She is getting very close to paint now. The wing will not be attached until after all painting is completed then the tensioning wires will be added.

Swanny, you are my GOD !!!..of modeling building.
