Flory washes?

I heard only good things about those Flory washes, so I decided to buy some of them. I just don’t know which colors to get. I hope you guys can help me out on this.

I thought about buying the following washes:

  • Black wash
  • Dark wash
  • Light wash
  • Grime wash
  • Mud wash

Cheers, Clemens

It would depend on what you are going to use them on,black wash might be a little dark for panel lines,I used the dark wash, looked good, but there is no right final answer.

Add Sand and you match my inventory, Clemens.[:)]

Don’t know if you noticed, but if you buy from Flory direct, they sell a set of all 8 for 37.50 pounds.Don’t recall seeing this set avail on any resellers that I use over here. Perhaps Hannants has is?

I would think that one could mix about anything from black, light (which is pretty much white), and mud brown. That said, I’m a fan of premixed colors in general hence my set of 6.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Flory (Promodeler) originally had only four colours, and later added more for lazy folks like me who aren’t fond of mixing colours.

I am actually ordering at the Flory website, but I don’t feel like buying all the washes. I don’t think I’ll ever use the concrete wash. What do you use the sand was for?

Tojo: I’d use the black wash for things like engines, dark cockpits and dark camo…

Concrete is a good shade for high-lighting darker colors/panel lines.

I got the sand because someday I’ll do an armor kit and figured it’d be nice to be on hand. Might never use it and could probably be mixed with mud brown and light anyway.

I think the 5 you listed should be quite sufficient.

I picked up the black, dark brown (I forget the name) and the light tan/sand wash. I’m really impressed with them, they work really well. I haven’t used the light one yet, I bought it to use on dark blue USN aircraft as Texgunner suggested.

I posted this in another thread regarding washes, but it might help someone else out here as well.

One thing to watch out for with the Flory washes, do not contaminate the wash with any solvent or object used with solvent, ie. a stirring stick or brush. The solvent will ruin the wash; it will “separate” and never behave right again…amhik Just sayin’…

Gary

I decided to just get the full set.

I wanted to add the rust wash anyway and after you guys telling me that the concrete wash is good for panel lines on dark models (USN aircraft in my case) I added that one as well. All those washes (7) cost as much as the set with 8 of them, so go figure [;)]

Thanks for helping me out!

Tex: Thank you very much for mentioning the solvent problem! Now i know what to watch out for!

You are very welcome good sir! I’m glad I could help.[:D[
