Any forum members in South West Florida, our thoughts are with you and all of the residents, looks pretty bad.We got family on Sanibel island, they evacuated ahead of time, but now the causeway is damaged, power is out,may be some time before they can get back to see if their house is even ok.
Anybody else here in the bullseye on the South Carolina coast ?
My Sister called around midnight last night .She was in Orlando! The warehouse she shared with a construction co. Got about a foot of water inside the building. They were on high ground too!. Everybody from that co. and her Four food trucks and the families are okay though! She said it seemed like a doomsday rain!
Way back in the day, my company cut the canals for Cape Coral. I saw the first twenty houses go up! We couldn’t get over the bridge to the site during a Hurricane(Don’t remember what the name was) But everything stayed put except one Bulldozer. He got washed into the canal he was grading yards by!
When living down there and doing construction without Cell Phones(remember this was quite a while back) The last thing you want to hear from the company you’re under contract too, is Booms down on the ground and clear the site!
My nephew in Sarasota stayed with his family, they did not evacuate. They we terrified by the level of destruction. Everyone is OK but there was flooding and damage to the property. The good thing is all of it can be rebuilt, people cannot…
I am by no means making any big deal of our upcoming vacation to Orlando next week, but we are now 0-4 on vacations. The first three were Alaskan cruises that were cancelled for COVID or airlines shortages and now a hurricane in Florida.
I know cancelling my vacation plan is very little compared to the devestation people experienced in Florida, my thoughts and prayers are with those effected.
My wife is in New Smyrna Beach just east of orlando and south of Daytona beach . I have been getting updates for the last several days. She was there for her nieces wedding. That has been cancelled do to wedding site is demolished. will need to reschedule it at another site. The water is receading and the power is back on. Water still flooding the streets and just started to seep into the house but not to bad. My father in law is there also. First time traveling in years and this happens. He is not happy about it. Hopefully airports will be open by tuesday sothey can come home.
I’m just outside the east border of Orlando and our internet just came back on. I have a couple pools of water in my yard and several branches out of our Camphor tree laying around and possibly some shingle damage on one side. There is some water still rising to the east of us in the vascinity of U.C.F. or just below it. The temperature is dropping past the 70s now and the wind is slowing up. In the morning I will have to start putting things back out. We got lucky and did not lose power so I will put my solar generators away later. I would hate to be someone living near a lake, not that I could afford to anyway.
We’re OK. Lots of yard clean up to do this weekend. Our Chihuahua Sassy has finally calmed down. Never lost power and the internet blinked a few times, that’s about it. We will need to get the roof inspected. We may have a few leaks.
Our cousins still have no acess to Sanibel and their home,so they have no idea what they will find when they get there. They are staying for free in their friends condo, but not knowing is hard.
Glad everyone came thru,we barely got any rain here in the mountains
I’m sorry your family is unable to find out how their home did. Hopefully they can return soon and have none or minor damage.
We have a friend in Orlando that got about 3 feet of water into his apartment and has no renters insurance. He is staying with family members.
No rain hey? Well this is the view from my driveway. Bottom picture is my house seen from my neighbor’s across the street. We got over 16" of rain and thank God it stopped in time.
Sorry to keep everyone waiting. I’m fine. The Naples shoreline and anywhere with gulf access canals got hit really hard. Sanibel Ft Myers Beach and parts of Ft Myers Cape Coral and Port Charlotte still have no power. This was a doozy.
I’m 12 miles inland so no damage to my home or neighborhood
We took roof damage am waiting for the insurance company to send in their adjuster so they can consult with the roofing company.
Today I got a long pleading lecture from my neighbor as she told me that I was oging throuigh the whole thing wrong and to contact FEMA and cancil the work before it gets started.
In all honesty I never considered FEMA because I thought they were for the heavily damaged areas that needed help more. I think it’s too late for that at this point anyway.
I am glad everyone is alright. My wife was at New Smyrna beech when it hit. She sent pics of that area and it didnt look good. She got home wed night . I was on edge for a while but all is good now. I hope all works out good for all of you that live there.
Im not near the St Johns River or Lake Harney which are still being impacted by flooding from Ian. There are areas that are still up to 4 feet of standing water as both river and lake continue to spill over.
Well, I am in Miami, and, for a while, we were worried the the storm was going to hit our area, there was a sense of relieve when it turned west, I am really sorry that our neighbors to the west experience so much destruction, we have been on vacation several times to the Fort Myers area, my understanding is that it was servery damage.
I expended my honeymoon 48 years ago in Sanibel Island in a very small hotel right in front of the beach, most likely that motel is no longer there. I have to visit the area after the bridge is fixed to see if it is still there.
Let us hope that this hurricane is the last one in a looooong time.
Have gone thru many hurricanes living in Miami from 1964 to 97 then moving a tad north to the Davie/Miramar area of western Broward Co. Unfortunately this one won‘t be the last one.
