Floating Road wheels

What does it mean when a tank has floating road wheels? What can be done to prevent it while making the model? If the model already has floating Road wheels what can be done to correct it, if anything? Is this related to gluing the tracks to the road wheels?? I would appreciate your comments.

It simply means that the roadwheels aren’t in contact with the track bottom and are “floating” in mid air… Couple things to do about it… One, Constantly check th’ alignment during the construction phase by setting it on a flat surface and adjust them. What I do though, is drill a hole down through the hull bottom and through the base, and do a bolt/washer/nut through the hull and base (counter-sink the bolt-head if you use a solid base) and use it to pull the hull down tight against the groundwork… This will provide a “sprung” look to the suspension against the terrain (just don’t do it too tight or you’ll snap your torsion arms)…

There’s other ways as well, but those are what I do…

I always use a piece of glass to make sure they are level.

Hans,

Is your advice for use during the initial consturction? What if there will be no base or the construction is already finished with the tank complete? Can you share other strategies?

Thanks!

Well, the best time to check your roadwheels and suspension arms is during construction, Pard… However, if you miss one, you could snap it off and remount it. My fix for that would be to drill a hole in each torsion bar section and insert a piece of straight-pin into the hole, then super glue it into the other hole and adjusting it until it sits flat, then let the glue set…

One thing to keep in mind though is there’re different kinds of suspensions and each will have it’s own little quirk…
