Airfix Sea Harrier FRS.1 1/48
I remember seeing that one. Nicely done Darren.

Thanks Rick, [tup]
Its no show winner, but I’m very fond of it. [:I] Always wanted one when I was a kid[;)]
Lovely job Darren, I think from memory that is the Airfix kit back dated isn’t it?
Cheers
Thanks Darren[tup]
Its an Airfix kit all right, not backdated though, I added a few bits here and there to try and make it more realistic. This is their Mk.I boxing, I have the MK.II or FA.2 in my stash. It is an improvement on the first kit as it has a new engraved panel line fuselage. I plan to re-scribe the wings and put a resin cockpit in it.
It’ll take a lot of work, so that one is for a future date.
I have some other FAA projects in the works, the Hellcat for this GB, then a Corsair then a FG.1 Phantom. I’m sure they will keep me busy for a while!
“Now hear this…now hear this…”
We now have 15 members in this build! [party][oX)][oX)][:D][:D][#toast][#toast][#toast]
Everyone is listed on page 1, as you start building, we’ll add details about your build so visitors to the thread will know who’s building what.
A big [#welcome] and a hearty Thank-you to everyone taking part! I’m looking forward to this one, it’ll be a blast![;)][tup]
Here’s a little more Mood Music. Three FAA Birds I built last year…

Regards, Rick
Superb!
Rick, they are great! I wish I had them on my display shelf, you should be very proud of them. All three are very well done indeed.[bow][bow]
Thanks for letting have a look.[tup]
I am in awe every time I see your work Rick! [bow][bow]
BTW I seem to remember you doing a sea fury in the markings of one of the Colonies not too long ago. Some people here would probably like to see that too even though it is not FAA.
I’m going to have to order something for this build. Can anyone give me a list of MM acryl colors appropriate for FAA subjects? I might as well order them when I order the kits.
I will probably be doing a WW2 or early cold war period aircraft, a Gannett or Wyvern are the likely candidates, although a Wildcat or Swordfish are not out of the running.
I use Humbrol enamels myself, but looking through the latest Squadron flyer, I think the colours most useful will be:
Polyscale Acrylics–
Extra Dark Sea Grey…FS36118
Dark Slate Grey…FS34096
Sky…FS34504
These can be used for the RN WWII camo schemes. Later post war schemes were ususally Extra dark sea grey/white.
Hope this helps,
Darren.[;)]
Darren, Dave Thanks Guys.
Dave, the Sea Fury was a Canadian Bird, not FAA, but here she is at your request [:)].

Regards, Rick
Rick that is positively awesome work and that Sea Fury is probably my favourite of all the builds you’ve posted on this site, great job [tup][tup][tup][tup][tup]
Aaron, I may be wrong on this but I don’t know if Model Master has all of the colors you will need for a FAA bird. You may have to revert to mixing several shades together.
By the way, is it April yet??? [:D]
Aaron, I don’t think model master acrylics have the Extra Dark Sea Grey or the Slate grey but they do have the Sky. However Floquil which I believe is also made by testors does have all these colours in acrylic and are available from Great models and I would assume most online stores. I have used both MM and Floquil acrylics and they are very similar. Here are the Floquil numbers
Extra Dark Sea Grey 36118
Dark Slate Grey 34096
Sky 34504
Thanks Darren.

Hmmm… seeing those awesome aircraft is kinda puttin’ me in the mood for this GB. I would be interested in doing a 1/48 Tamiya Corsair, if someone could point me in the right direction for modifying the wingtips to represent a FAA version.
Thanks for the colors, Floquil will work.
Just broke the seal on a new 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D and would love to do it for this build.
Dont know if I can wait until April to start though…Heck Im just gonna build it now!![:D]
Rick,
your Seafury is fantastic![bow][bow][bow] I gotta get me one of those![oX)]
