Flashing, ejector pin marks and Fruil tracks?

[:)]Morning lads,

When reading threads and magazine articles I’m always coming across the terms ‘flashing’ and ‘ejector pin marks’. Obviously these aren’t good things but I have no idea what these terms mean-can anyone tell me. I’ve tried searching and although the words are mentioned I can’t find a decent meaning to either.

Also, what are ‘Fruil Tracks’, are they some sort of aftermarket track or something?

…flashing…[/QUOTE]

Flash is excess plastic around the sides of a piece where the mold halves come together.

Usually round (or partially round) marks on a piece where the parts sprue was ejected from the molding machine. Not a problem if the marks do not show. They require cleaning up if they will be visible on the model.

Aftermarket tracks.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Mike!

To add: Ejector pin marks can be raised or recessed. Where the moulds have been run for a long time and the pins themselves have been broken or lost, you can sometimes get a solid column pf plastic. Sometimes the pin/bore can wear and you can get tubular “flash” around the perimeter of the pin mark.

Raised pin marks need to be shaved/sanded flush. Recessed pin marks need to be filled and then smoothed flush.
