At a recent show I saw an armor model with a German flag draped on the vehicle, and this was done remarkably well. I would like to do a similiar effect on my ZSU-23-4. Can anyone provide for me some tips on how to replicate this?

Flag can be made out of putty, rolled out thin and shaped appropriately. Another option is to use lead foil for the flag. Once the flag is formed, simply paint it as you like. You could also print one off the computer onto fine paper and shape it and glue it down.
It helps to soak the paper for a bit so that it will drape more naturally on the surface your covering just dont let it soak too long as it can fall apart. Some one used to make flag sheets and I think it was Varlinden but this was a while back and I dont know if there still made.

If it is available at archer transfers then you can just rub-off the flag onto anything (usuallly foil) and drape it however you like.

Indeed, scan/download a flag image, larger is better. Choose a completely flat image, no furls or folds. Save it as a .jpg and import it into your word program. Resize as needed. Print with the highest resolution possible (use the print command, not the icon, and go to properties, and choose the fine for the print level. Let the ink dry and seal it with decal saver from micro scale. When this is dry, use diluted white glue on the back, this will soften the paper slightly. Apply it where you want and make folds as needed. When dry, the flag will be attached to the model and have a great deal of stiffness while looking natural.
